Relay and module

The power module with a built in relay is bad. when i hook a trailer up to my tow hitch my right blinker and right break light do not work. The wires are good and all fuses are good. I brought it to the dealer and they finally decided this is the issue. They told me the name of the part over the phone but i cant remember what it is called.

I think you might be talking about the "Trailer Lighting Converter" or the "Tow Ready" Tail Light Converter, or they may call it a trailer light module. This module plugs into the vehicles OEM harness. If this failed then you could have such symptoms. But they could also be talking about the "Trailer Light Socket" (your trailer electrical plug plugs into this socket). I hope this helps. If not try to give more details. Good luck.

SOURCE: no tail lights or running lights

Next step, replace the Power Distribution Module. It probably has a short in it also. Why in the hell anyone would think it was a good idea to put the fuse box with two circuit boards in it(not properly sealed) is beyond me. I wonder if they would take their lap top into the shower to see if it would still work. Please make a complaint about this poorly designed product at this site. www.nhtsa.gov Chrysler should take responsibility for this problem. I think they keep their company afloat with all the modules they sell.

SOURCE: LEFT TRAILER TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK

I'd get a 12vdc test light if you don't have one already & start from plug, and keep probing back from there. It may be as simple as a bad connection under truck where joined into harness.

SOURCE: factory 99 dodge trailer plug wiring

You'll need to disconnect the wires from either the truck connector or the trailer connector...
I highly suggest purchasing a voltage checker- it looks like a screwdriver with a pigtail of wire with an alligator clip on the end. The tip of the 'screwdriver' has a point for probing. The light in the probe will light up...makes it easy to trouble shoot without a helper behind the trailer.
Hook the aligator clip to a good positive grounding point on the bumper or frame(not painted).
then pin by pin on the truck connection, stick the probe on each terminal tab.. and write a simple diagram where you find brake, tail, backup, etc...
Then i'd suggest, taking the connector off of your trailer, exposing the wire ends.
Run again thru your diagram and turn on each light of the truck. As you do, touch the wires from the trailer to that specific terminal. (make sure your ground wire is attached on the trailer) you can mark each wire with a piece of tape and label it which is which.
then simply attach your trailer wires according to your diagram to the terminals in the connector... that should get you in business..
hope that makes sense...
That way if the factory wiring harness remains the same, you'll be able to use it with other trailers if the need arises..

SOURCE: LEFT TRAILER TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK

I have seen once before that the fuse box was bad on a 2003 Dodge 3500. I had power in and nothing out. We had to replace the box. Not cheap! Hope it is simple like a loose connection though. I think I had to pull the inner fender on the drivers side to access the bottom of the fuse box. Pain in the ****, but...

SOURCE: Need wirering diagram to hook up trailer lights and elecric break

Also try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. They have a great website with lots of info. With the tow package, there should be a plug under the dash... far left above the emerg. brake petal. The harness that plugs into it should have came with the truck, or you can order one to fit it. Did thew truck come with a 7 pin plug on the back? If not you can order one from the above mentioned site. They also have the wiring colors.

We got a new truck and the tow chain hooks don't fit right on the truck so I need bigger connectors. I don't know if the capacity should go by the tongue weight or the trailer weight

Hello Donald, the safety chains and hook ratings should exceed the gross loaded trailer weight as their purpose is to ensure the trailer does not break free from the vehicle should a hitch, tongue or structural failure occur.

98 silverado parking lights not working

Have you checked fuses? the most common problem is a bad fuse, make sure to check the fuses located under the hood ,check them all, there are light modules and other components that run power to tail lights. also if you use the tow hitch and light hook up and the fuse is bad then also check and see if fuse pops with trailer connected ,if it does then check wiring on trailer lights

I just bought a horse trailer and when I hook it up to my 2006 Silverado, the lights don't work. My trailer hitch and wiring system are new, and the previous trailer owner tested the lighting of

Some people wire trailer plugs differently. If the plug is not wired differently than yours, make sure the tow ball is clean. No rust. That's where the trailer gets its ground from. Usually they will work if thats the case, but not right. I can't remember what the wire colors are right now. Go to etrailer and look up the diagram.

Only left trailer blinker and brake light work when I hook up my trailer. Just got this 2006 Nissan Titan and everything worked on my trailer before. There was no TRAILER TURN RH relay installed in the...

If the blinker is working on the truck then fuse is good, this sounds like a bad bulb or connection to the light, the brake and signal use the same filement in the bulb. check the bulb first, next thing to determine if its the trailer wiring or the truck socket, use a testlight and test the connector or the wire at the trailer connector and see if there power in the wire, but check close to connector if theres power coming out the connector then it in the trailer wiring or bulb,. also im not sure what this trailer turn relay rh is that you speak off. the only thing i could think of is to converter the signal and brake on the truck to operate the same bulb on the trailer, if this is what you installed then check that wiring also as the controls the lights to the trailer, but if this truck was built with the tow package then it should of be wiring already for this. here a good site to help you with the wiring as this gets hard to explain over the computer, but again test the tow connector on the truck first with a testlight, this way you will be able to see if it the trailer wiring or the truck wiring to connector. google trailerlightwiring. good day. let me know if you have any other questions.

My turn signals & hazard lights no longer work. what # relay is for the turn signal?

hazard is #21 - 15A .........cant answer the blinker, i do know that i hear my blinkers click up at the top of my dash inst panel.
and my manual only gives #3 as a left stop/turn trailer tow connector, and #7 as the right stop/turn trailer tow connector. But maybe the clicking is a relay or maybe its built -in the panel, I'm gonna find this out cause now i need to know. thanks for bringing this up, this is the first of reading this problem with the explorer to me.

You are missing all the lights on the rear of the truck ?

The trailer tow adapter runs to a common ground ( see when you take the spare tire down ), that is used for quite a few things.

If you do not have lights on the back of the truck, take a look there, it might not have been bolted back to the frame.

Tow plug

I take it the blinkers and brake lights work ok when not hooked up to the trailer? If yes, then the wiring to the tow hitch is not hooked up correctly. How many wires to trailer pig tail connection? U can have up to 7 depending on what you tow. Check to make sure these wires are hooked up from the truck to tow plug correctly: 7 wired---
brown-Rt turn and brake light, yellow-backup, white-ground, blue-electric brake, green-tail running lights, black-battery charger, red-left turn signal and brake light. Let me know if u have something other than 7 wire, I'll get the wiring color and source info for u.
