The speedo should get power from the same circuit the other gauges are on. If the speedo and odometer are not working, the problem could be the speed sensor in the transmission.
In 1990 most Automatics had a cable driven speedo. If not...were it is connected to the trani there is 1 bolt holding in the electric speedo unit. Check the connection and or replace the speed sensor that the bolt is holding in
If you got ignition lights it won't be the fuse.
Check that the speedo gear is ok and then check the cable is ok.
If all those are ok then check that the speedo head is working by spinning the cable in the speedo head.
The speedo head or cluster is the part that houses the speedometer and tach, etc. now it may be the speedo cable that comes from the transmission to the speedo head that has broken. If so replace the cable and your back in business. If it is the head you can get them from your local recycle yard.
ok if its a cable driven speedo then the cable has snapped or the speedo drive that goes into the gearbox is gone ,,also if its electric speedo then id go with the electric speedo in the gearbox ,,,a ten mil nut holds it in and it goes straight down into the gearbox,,youl see it from under the bonnet ,,
if i were you disconnect speedo cable both ends sit some one in car to see if cable is internally turning? if so good! now take small hex key spin speedo cluster to see if it moves speedometer arm if so put it back together and replace speed sensor usually located at speedo cable input at transmission have a great day!John
