Your asking if your key has a "Transponder". The answer is yes. The transponder must be present (inside the key) for the car to start. If you do have a valet key and there is nothing wrong with the door locks. You will have to either go to Toyota and have keys made. If the locks are all original they should have they number on file. If the lock has been changed they make need to change the ignition switch and rekey or replace the door locks too. If you are mechanically inclined. You may be able to replace these locks yourself. There is a reprogramming procedure for the ignition key but why don't you look into this first and let me know what you want to do. If you decide to do the repair yourself. let me know what your plan is and what you want to do, and we will go from there. Hope to hear from you, Good luck.
If you can provide proof of ownership, most dealers will cut key from vin number. As long as you can provide title or something showing that the car belongs to you.

The first thing to do is try another key. Perhaps your transponder key has failed.
You can identify a 'transponder key'; it has a wide part wher you turn it.

You need to have a code reader/scan tool hooked up to retrieve the code/s that triggered the engine light. You can have this done at most auto parts stores for free. Try Auto zone, Checkers, Napa, or Murray's. The engine light will eventually go out if the computer does not receive any codes after many cycles turning the ignition on and off. It will not go out if there are codes still present. After you've retrieve the code/s bring them back here and we will have a better understanding of what caused them.
