2003 Mitsubishi Outlander Grating Noise, Front Struts?

Hi, I have an issue with my 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. There's a loud grating/vibration noise at certain speeds, driving in certain directions. It starts around 10mph, disappears around 35mph, comes back, then disappears again around 60mph, comes back around 65mph. The noise only happens when driving straight or left, goes away when turning right. It sounds like the noise is coming from somewhere near the front passenger wheel, and I can feel the vibrations in the floorboards. It's a steady, light-medium vibration, accompanied by a loud noise. I brought it in for an alignment, and up on the lift the mechanic said I need new struts, they're leaking. I knew I needed new struts soon, but I'm wondering if that is the cause of the noise/vibration? Thanks!

It very well could be the strut.
smaller chance could be the CV axle.
Also have the splash guards/heat shields checked to make sure they are all tight in place.

SOURCE: 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES Clunking noise

the first thing i would check is the sway bar bushings they usualy go first. you have a bushing out somwhere. ive replace many struts because people have requested new struts and when we install them they come back and complain that the clunk is still there and all it needed was a bushing kit for $20
hope this helps

SOURCE: vibration felt in front floorboard

Yes it can but the dealer would have found it on the test drive if they test drove the vehicle. The only other causes for the vibration I can think of should have been found on inspection as well. Check your bushings and mounts for the sway bar and your tie rod ends as well.

SOURCE: Saturn SL1, growling and vibration coming from right front wheel,

Might be a hub bearing. Those make a growling noise when they are bad. When it is on jack stands you should be able to put your hands on the top of the tire and the bottom of the tire and move it back and forth. and the same with putting your hands on the right and left side of the tire. if you can and it moves back and forth then the bearing is back. but becarefull not to get the movement confused with a bad ball joint or tire rod. which could also be your problem but they dont make a growling noise

SOURCE: I have a very noisy front end at above 20 mph.

COULD BE YOUR CV JOINTS. TIRE GUY SHOULD HAVE SPOTTED. CHECK THE RUBBER BOOTS JUST BEHIND THE HUBS. CRACKED? TAKE TO DEALER

I have a 2003 outlander with 132,000 miles on it. There is a "crunching" noise in the rear when going over a bump or when there is a load in the car. I have been told that it was the struts...but...also...

dry sway bar bushings are the cheapest and most likely fix to this problem. however given the mileage and likely age of the struts on the vehicle wouldnt hurt to replace them even if it doesnt fix your noise.

Winding noise and vibration when driving on front right tire

you could have more than one problem the vibration accelrating maybe an inner cv joint ,if you just had the tires replace and an aligment done they should have checked the front end for worn out ball joint and tierods but the wheel bearing may not have any movment but can still make noise

Have the 4X4 transfer case fluid changed and a bottle of friction modifier added, sounds like the clutches are sticking, if that doesn't correct the problem then the transfer case will need to be overhauled
