I have a 1996 E 320. I was driving on the freeway and the check oil light came out. I pulled over and stop. Inmediatelly after that a lot of smoke came out. I opened the hood and it looked like th oil came out from the dip stick and it leaked out all over. I checked the oil it it was about a quart low, topped off oil and vehicle would not start.

White Smoke = Steam
Blue Smoke = Oil
Black Smoke = Rich Mixture
Are you losing coolant?
Are you losing oil?
And my learned colleagues excellent advice should be down here.
Have you opened the bonnet up and looked at engine ?
Suggest checking oil cap is screwed on properly ?
Look at exhaust manifold is there oil spilling onto it ?
check oil dip stick is fully inserted into engine ?
Also check power steering pipes for leaks ?
Let us know how you get on !!
Depends on where the smoke was coming from. I would bet it's oil smoke but it could be coming from a blown head gasket or it could be from an oil leak hitting your exhaust pipes. You likely seized the engine after it ran out of oil.
first step is to check and see if there is any oil left. If nothing shows on the dipstick, does the engine still turn over? If it does, pull you speak plugs one at a time and check them for oil or possibly coolant. If you have fouled plug(s) you blew a head gasket.
when you check the oil see if it looks like a chocolate shake. That indicates a blown gasket because coolant is mixed in.
either way you are likely looking at a big repair bill. You should have pulled over when it started smoking and definitely should have stopped when the lights came on.
You probably have oil that spilled over onto the engine block and manifolds which is burning off while you drive. You could get some degreaser and clean the engine. You could also just keep driving it untill it stops smoking as long as it seems to be running OK.
If the smoke was white, then you've probably blew the head gasket. Check for coolant in the oil as well as the coolant level. Coolant in the oil and low coolant in the radiator or reserve bottle combined are good indication of blown head gasket.
Your car shouldn't have just suddenly started burning oil. Its possible it's leaking in the engine compartment and the leak is dripping onto the hot exhaust manifold and the. The smoke is blowing out the back as you drive. I would think it's unlikely that the engine has been damaged since the check-engine light should have come on if the oil level was low enough to cause damage.
If hii find that bluish smoke is coming from the exhaust pipes, then the next thing to check is whether it smokes on acceleration or deceleration. If the latter, it may be just a valve issue. If it smokes a lot on startup, then it may be rings.
The oil light coming on when stopped at a stop sign tells me your engine was already damaged before you had the power loss problem. I would not waste the 650 to put in an oil pump. You would be further ahead to just replace the engine.
I have a 2000 Grand Jeep Cherokee, I was driving along the freeway maybe doing about 60mph when my jeep suddenly jerked, when it did this my emissions light came on. I pulled over in a parking lot checked all my fluids oil, transmission fluid, everything seemed okay, as I was getting back on the freeway I watched the R PMs that was fine and my emission light went off. After driving for about 5 minutes it did it again and my emissions light came back on, I did notice this time it seemed to be in the rear where this Jerking/ Bucking came from can anyone help???
