There are a few different causes that would give you that symptom. A worn Throttle position sensor (tps) would cause erratic revving, and also a stuck throttle cable/body as well. Take a quick look at the throttle body and move it by hand to watch the cable action, this will quickly tell you if it is the problem. The kickdown cable may be stuck too. The tps can be check with a voltmeter to see if it is within spec and adjusted accordingly. Any of these problems would be any easy/cheap fix for a mechanic if you cannot do it yourself. If everything checks out, then you may have a bad ECU.

Why won't my 2003 ford ranger 3.0 accelerate past 40km/h

Not sure what you have determined the truck is doing

If the rpm flairs the trans is slipping & done

If it won't go over 40 mph the exhaust converter is damaged
& blocked

Not much you can do,need professional help

85 Firebird is slow at takeoff. Pressing accelerator increases RPMs but car does not speed up. RPMs almost to 3000 before shift. Will move through all gears but does so slowly. Car has not been run...

hi this sounds more like it is either low on transmission oil or your torque converter might be damaged in some way, the reason why i think its the transmission is the revving of the car, normally if it was something to do with the engine/motor it would give you less rpm rather than more, so i would start looking at the transmission rather than the engine/motor...hope this helps..ps, just a hint as some people do not do this, but to check your transmission fluid is up to the correct level, make sure the car is on idle, this will give you a true reading as to how much transmission oil is needed...

Automatic transmission shuddering while shifting from first to second. rpms revving in second but no acceleration

Before buying the module read this TSB
(http://www.mn12performance.com/mn12-...tsb-98-8-7.pdf). I had the
same problem. However, I also needed a tanny rebuild so I opted to replace
the torque converter with a High Stall unit.

Have to rev engine to 1500 rpm's to get the transmission to go into low gear, will not shift into 2nd gear or any higher gear goes right into reverse in low rpms, was fine prior to this had just driven7...

Thats not good. Usually if you are having to rev the engine the line pressure is really low. either the pump is going bad or your have a huge leak somewhere. If reverse works fine without revving then it isn't the main pump.
Long story short someone is going to have to get pretty dirty. The transmission will likely need rebuilt. You might have someone check the valvebody just to make sure something isn't stuck. A look at the pan will give a good idea how much wear is on the rest of the transmission.

Vehicle revvs without acceleration, may be leaking oil and tranny

You have most likely poked holes in the oil pans for the engine and transmission, or oil lines for them. You will have to go under the truck with some rags and start wiping things off looking for dents and or holes. Leaks will oil back up quickly when you wipe them off. If you see puddles of oil under the truck start there. You are probably looking at replacing these pans and lines which wouldn't be too expensive but you could also be looking at replacing the transif it has burnt out. Check the fluid level and for color and smell. If the trans fluid is brown or black and smells burnt you will have to change it. A scrap yard will be your best betfor another trans, $500 or so depending on the yard. Get some skid plates if you are going to keep on off-roading. Hope this helps.

Car accelerating without touching gas pedal

Sounds like your TPS is receiving full resistance. If cable type check cable and the lever on the throttle body, if fly by wire then it may need a new TPS
