Common symptoms of a bad
Mercedes brake light switch.

Brakes Defective Warning on Instrument Cluster
Car won't shift gears. Stuck in 2nd gear, limp mode.
Brake lights don't work. (Brake light switch can still be defective even if the brake lights work. Checking the brake light operation is not a good test.)
ESP, BAS, ABS lights turn on. Car won't shift properly. Stuck in gear.
TEST: To test your new brake light switch: Turn you car off to reset the ABS light. apply the parking brake. and start the car in neutral or park without using the brake. if the problem is the brake light switch... the light will only come on when you press the brake pedal.
If you replaced the brake light switch and the light is still on you should check a few other things such as:
Fuses and Relays
ABS pump
ABS wheel speed sensor
Brake Fluid Level
Get an advanced scanner to read trouble codes.
NOTE: ** You may need a MBZ scan tool to reset the error code which was stored in the ECU because of the bad brake light switch.
I would find out why my computer is not talking , take the battery terminals off for 45 seconds , then put them back on and start the car and see if it cleared any codes . Drive it around and see if it acts back up if it does look into your computer .
The ESP and BAS warning lights may illuminate due to a failed brake light switch. Replacement of the failed switch should correct this concern. A recall on certain 2000-2002 models have been recalled for a related issue
EsP light is on, there is error code stored in your cars computer, getting car scanned is advisable.Car no start problem is sometimes very difficult to confirm. You try all the possible things, but still you get no fault and problem is still the same.-------- In that case, you need to check few things individually. Check the spark, the battery, the crank, the fuel and other most possible parts. Click this link below for more details:-- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/10/car-troubleshooting-tips.html
the esp light is caused by failure of the brake light switch in most models. check your brake light operation and replace the switch if the brake lights have failed. the switch is found in the footwell above the brake pedal
Sometimes the issue is with the mechanical vacuum pump off to the side of the ABS/ESP module. It looks like a round silver canister. This issue is all over Google with many possibilities but the one I copied is most common.
There are alot of things that will make those lights turn on. Get it checked at the dealer. Could be an ABS sensor/module, could be the steering angle sensor, or other things.
