DO YOU ALSO LOSE POWER ON HARD ACCELERATION? IF SO CHECK THE FUEL FILTER AND THE CAT FOR RESTICTIONS. IF THE CEL IS BLINKING OR STAYING ON CHECK CODES FIRST. THE STORED CODES WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD PLACE TO START.

SOURCE: Losing power/acceleration on hills

Change or clean the EGR valve and install a new catalytic converter.
This should take care of the problem.

SOURCE: 97 gmc jimmy loseing fuel power

The first thing I would recommend is that you change your fuel filter and recheck your fuel pressure once you do that. If is persists I would check your fuel pressure regulator as well. A fuel pressure regulator for a 1997 GMC K2500 ran about $45.00 and a fuel filter runs about $7-10.00. That's a lot cheaper to go that route first than to have to spend $350.00 for a new (Lifetime Warrenty) fuel pump that comes with a new sock and sending unit.

I have a 1997 jimmy and it cranks up fine but it starts bogging down when i am driving and when i try to climb a hill

You may have a clogged up egr valve. When the egr valve gets clogged up with carbon, the truck will run rough, surge stall, and be very anemic on power. Is the service engine soon(check engine) light on? I've dealt with this issue before, and those 4.3 v6's tend to get egr issues. Try this: when it bogs and runs rough, stop truck, open hood, and tap on egr valve base( where it bolts to engine) if rough running clears up, there's your problem. Egr valve is located on front of engine just to the rt of alternator bracket.

Car died after stopping at a light and proceeding up a small hill

Let's start with the simple things. Change the fuel filter first and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi with the fuel line pressurized and should drop by 5 psi when engine is running. Keep me posted, be glad to help.If there is an Auto Zone around your area you can lone out a fuel pressure gauge and they will have the step y step instructions for you to get the job done. Good luck.

It just stoped running

Depending on how much gas was in the tank and how steep the hill was, the fuel pump most likely started pumping air instead of gas, thereby stalling the engine.

Car loses power

When the check engine light is flashing that indicates an engine misfire, which is catalyst damaging. Because you said that it generally only happens up a long hill or at higher speed, and it doesnt happen all of the time, most likely you are in need of a full tune up.
