Have the misfire diagnosed and the backfiring will be fixed also. The backfiring is caused by the "over-rich" fuel mixture in the exhaust stream and is igniting within the exhaust. Fix the misfire (which will cause the rich condition) and the backfire will be gone.

SOURCE: Truck broke down wont start.

There is no Inercia Switch to reset Like Ford
Have you Double Checked All Underbody wiring for fuel pump ,OPEN In Pink/blk tracer fuel power lead, also
Oil Sending unit on most GM Vehicles have the ability to turn OFF GROUND to Fuel Pump Relay as a Proyection Against LOW OIL Pressure in engine.

Fuel Cutoff Mode
The PCM cuts OFF fuel from the fuel injectors when the following conditions are met in order to protect the powertrain from damage and improve driveability:

  • The ignition is OFF. This prevents engine run-on.
  • The ignition is ON but there is no ignition reference signal. This prevents flooding or backfiring.
  • The engine speed is too high, above red line.
  • The vehicle speed is too high, above rated tire speed.
  • During an extended, high speed, closed throttle coast down-This reduces emissions and increases engine braking.
  • During extended deceleration, in order to prevent damage to the catalytic converters

SOURCE: hard start when air temp is cold, backfires when warm

Try this, remove (MAF) Mas Air Flow sensor,(be sure key is OFF) so you don't set a trouble code when disconecting wire conector, with some throttle body/air intake cleaner from the outlet side of MAF, spray the sensor clean, let dry, reassemble.Remove snorkle from throttle body, and with a old tooth brush, clean throttle body& plate with cleaner, may take a couple of cans if throttle is badly 'coked' up. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: why does my 1998 gmc truck backfire and stutter sometimes stall when driving

my friend the car backfires if its runing lean ( insufficient fuel ) or runing rich ( insufficient oxygen ) this mostly in carbourated cars would make incomplete compustion . in engine with fuel injuction there may be a leak in the intake valve that makes the fuel to burn in the exhaust pipe . so check for leak asap

click the ignition so #1 cylinder is at top dead center then pull youre distributer cap off make sure the rotor is pointing towards # 1 cylinder if not you re timing is 180 deg off pull the distributer out a little and turn the rotor to # 1 cyl you probaly dont have the timing marks lined up correct if the timing is off it will back fire either out the air filter or exhaulst ..

What will cause it to steadly pop pop pop throu carb like small backfire

There are many reasons that a vehicle will backfire through the carburetor. What determines the cause depends on what condition the backfire happens. Is it a steady backfire at idle or does it start when you are accelerating ? Do you live in a wet climate or dry? Has the engine been wet?
Backfiring is caused when the exhaust valve is open during the firing or compression stroke of a certain cylinder. For example, a broken spring will not close the valve completely. A bad camshaft lobe will cause a back fire, if you have a distributor that got wet the spark could cross over to another area wire and cause the problem causing a missfire. If the wires were put on wrong after putting in plugs it will cause a missfire.

check for leaking injectors and vacuum leaks as there is fuel getting into the exhaust system and igniting. check ignition timing as it may be retarded too far.

1988 k1500 backfires and almost dies when warmed up and on highway when giving more gas

Usually when you get a backfire thru the intake the problem is timing or a lean fuel mixture.
If you are sure the ignition system is in good condition, I would have the fuel pressure tested.
You could also have a vac leak that is random, or a problem with the throttle position sensor. But if the sensor has failed you should get a trouble code and check engine light.

I have problems with my 98 chevy k1500 pickup on the highway. Once i hit about 65 mph it wont accelerate and it backfires. also, after i come to a stop and try to accelerate up to highway speeds again,...

If it is running bad enough to be backfiring, the Check Engine light should be on. I would start with scanning the engine computer for fault codes.

1999 Grand Cherokee backfires through carb. when starting to take off. When at highway speeds its fine, and it does'nt do it all the time. There is a check engine light on.

it sounds like you may have a missfire which could be caused by faulty spark plug or ignition leads i would check these first

Constant backfire on deceleration 88 chevy 4.3 V 6

Check for exhaust leaks. Esp Leaks toward the front of the car. Hold your hand over the tail pipe using a rag and see where the loud hissing noise comes from. Repair the leaks and I bet the backfiring goes away

Good Luck
