Immediately after getting my rear tires changed I started to hear a loud hissing sound coming from the area of my rear passenger side. Only when the car is running. within 2-3 seconds after turning off the car the hissing stops. I went back to the tire store and was told that it is normal... I have had this car since 2001 and have never heard this so I know it is not normal. I don't trust my long term mechanic since he dropped my engine on my radiator and refused to take responsibility for it and so I turn to you for help. What could this be? 2001 Dodge Neon.

sounds like the e brake cable has stuck, see if you can pull it to activate the e brake at that wheel if there is already tension on it you can cut the cable and replace it later (especially if its an automatic) please rate and good luck -jeff

Look to make sure your brake caliper bolts are secure as the can back out and contact the wheel itself. You can feel around the whell for and gouges or scraping to confirm this. It is a stretch but there may be some foriegn object stuck under there as well.

Take our oil pan off from under your car and there should be 4 to 5 covers over a rod bearing. wiggle each one of them and find out which one is loose. take that cover off of the one that is wiggling and get the rod bearing out. order a new one from auto zone and replace it. The knocking in your motor can end up where you will need a whole new motor. so get it done before its to late.

The water pump bearings could be going out and they will make a grinding noise. The water pump doesn't always leak when the bearings are going out.
