While driving steering wheel locked up

About a week ago the steering wheel locked in my Dodge Ram 1500 while I was driving. I turned off the ignition and restarted it and the wheel turned fine. Earlier this week I had to drive the truck 300+ miles (I moved out of state). The steering wheel worked fine the entire drive but when I got to my location it locked again and now it won't turn. The key will turn in the ignition and the car starts but the steering wheel won't move at all. There is power steering fluid in the truck and there is nothing leaking. Help!

Has it thrown or broken the belt?
When you say locked do you mean real hard to turn or the locking pin has engaged?

Your ignition lock probably has sticky pin inside of tumbler.
Try spraying some WD40 or PB Blast into the key cylinder.

SOURCE: My steering wheel is locked and I can't turn

turn the steering wheel counter clockwise (to your left) forcefully. while holding the steering wheel, insert the key in the ignition switch and try to turn it on, if the key wont move, try to **** the steering wheel repeatedly while try to turn on the engine every ****.

Lost ignition key 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

I doubt it.
With the key in lock position the shifter should be locked and the steering wheel will lock as soon as you turn it.
You would need to power several of the circuits including the wire going to the starter.
Did the truck have an alarm / anti-theft system ?

2005 dodge ram 1500, drove down the road to my moms ans then got back in to leave. the ignition would not even turn

If the key won't turn, try to move the steering wheel left or right, the steering/ ignition lock plate can hang up if the wheels are not strait

The key will not turn in the ignition. The

you have bent tumblers inside the lock cylinder. A replacement will be needed for this repair. The old one is unuseable since the tumblers are stuck inside and the key does not turn it no longer

Problem with starting my 2003 dodge ram

My father has the same problem with his 2001 Chrysler Sebring, the key will go into the ignition switch but wont turn. Called the dealer and seems the tumblers inside the ignition have gotten stuck, the solution... put the key in the ignition and tap it gently with a hammer (plastic tip if you have it) and it worked fine. Not sure what the guys at Autozone are pull but on a Ram 5.7 Hemi there are individual coils, not one, I should know I also have a 2003 Ram 1500 and have changed the plugs (not fun)... I have a code scanner (Hypertec) and when I've gotten a check engine light I check it with the scanner. Turned out mine had a problem with the air sensor in the intake. $15 part fixed the problems. Good Luck.

Hoe to remove the ignition switch in 05 ram 1500

Step1 Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them. Step2 Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft. Step3 Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheelmag-glass_10x10.gif and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column. Step4 Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out. Step5 Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder. Step6 Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.
