I do not know the EXACT location, but can give you an idea of where to look.

Most starters are on the 'right' side of the engine, mounted to the transmission. To determine what I mean by the right side, stand at the transmission side of the engine facing it, the belts should be on the other side of the car from you. Your right is the engine's right. If the belts are near the passenger fender, the starter should be under the manifold up against the firewall, bolted to the transmission. If it isn't there, then check the left side, as cramped engine compartments can cause the manufacturer to deviate from the 'norm'.

is there a rubber bushing between the trans and mount. make sure this is secured properly.

The transmission in your Neon using a TRS, or transmission range sensor, instead of a neutral start switch. The TRS assemby is mounted inside the transmission above the valve body.

There are 4 motor mounts on a Neon. You need a jack to support the bottom of the motor with a block of wood on it. 2 are easily replaceable, but there is one that goes to the middle of the front of the engine that is tricky, plus the transmission mount is accessed after removing several components, like the battery and tray. It may be better to have a professional take care of those "tricky" mounts.

actually there are 3 like he said the tranny mount is also the motor mount.. go figure. right upper right lower and right mid...

Do check the motor mounts! Start the car, have a helper shift from reverse to drive! Is there a lotta engine movement?? Replace the faulty mounts. My quess it is almost flipping over! The output speed sensor likely on the back middle of the trans. There are only 2 connectors, the other is backup lights. Best I can do at this time! Frankster016
