Change gear linkage cable

if it is a manual(not stated ) then the problems as indicated is a clutch not disengaging when depressed
possible causes are
no oil in the system
air in the system
failed clutch master cylinder and /or clutch salve cylinder
If cable clutch then it may be a broken cable.

Gear Shift - Floor Mounted

Removal

1. Raise the vehicle and disconnect the transmission

shift cable from the lower selector lever.

2. Disconnect the four nuts that attach the housing 6. Remove the whole floor shift housing by lifting

to the floorpan. vertically

Installation

1. To install the floor shift housing to the floorpan

reverse the above instructions in order 6, 5, 4.

2. Place the selector lever in the 'P' position.

3. Raise the vehicle.

4. Reconnect the four nuts that attach the housing to

the floorpan.

5. Install the shift cable back onto the lower selector

lever.

6. Tighten the lock nut to the required torque to 28

Nm.

7. Lower the vehicle and check transmission

operation in each selector lever detent position.

I6 Floor mount shift components

Gear shifter flopping around?..may have broken cable/linkage

Sounds like you need a new shift cable. Remove the shift cable from the linkage on the transmission. If the transmission linkage moves freely back into the park position and the shift lever inside the car still will not move back into park than the cable is bad. If the transmission shift linkage will not move back into park with the cable removed than the transmission will need to be pulled apart to service the shift rod.

If the car rolls with the shifter in the park position and the starter will not engage the engine than the transmission is not in park. This could be caused by a bad shift cable. In order to confirm this you will need to find the area where the shift cable attaches to the transmission. While a helper runs the shifter through the gears check the linkage at the transmission to see if it is moving. If the linkage is not moving that there is a problem with the shift cable or the shifter. Some disassembly of the center council may be necessary to gain access to the area where the shift cable attaches to the shifter to see if it is still attached to the shifter. If it is and the shifter is moving the cable than the cable will need to be replaced. If the cable is moving the linkage at the trans than there is probably something wrong internally inside of the transmission. sounds like the baulk ring has broken up ,you will need to replace this or get a recon box.

If it is an automatic transmission sounds like shifter cable broke or fell off. If it is a standard transmission,depending on manufacturer cable broke or fell off or linkage broke or fell off.

i can't change into 2nd,4th and reverse gears. i think its a gear lever cable not sure doe any ideas?

think you have the wrong cable

usually you should do it for peugeot diesel at 122000 miles along with water pump and the tensioner roller that runs under the cambelt too. But to be on the safe side do it at 100000 and save the fortune.
It took me (DIY job) about 6-8 hours as i wanted to save 450 pounds.
