SOURCE: speedometer on 95 plymouth neon doesn't always work.

I have the answer!
There are two clips that the cluster connects to. Those two clips have become worn. There are two ways to resolve this. 1. replace the clips. 2. (what I did) took a sparkplug box and cut it in 4 strips long wise and folded them in half. I then inserted those strips between the dash and the clip. This pushes clip forward and creates a stable connection.

SOURCE: My '99 Plymouth Neon has recently started to shift

A common problem on Neons, ( happened to me on my 95 and 97 as well ) is the throttle pressure control linkage at the transmission seizes and causes hard shifting and sometimes your gas pedal feels stiffer as well when pushed to floor, but loose at top. The linkage is located on top of where the shifter linkage attaches to the transmission, basically under your battery tray on drivers side. Remove the battery, and look down under the tray and you should see it. The part you want to concentrate on is the linkage that sits on top. WARNING!! Do not undo nut etc and remove it from the shaft it is attached to or you will end up getting it towed to tranny shop for repairs, as linkage drops down and transmission pan and some internal parts need to be removed to re-attach it. Just leave it alone. That linkage needs to move freely and independent of shifter linkage. You'll have to spray with WD-40 or similar, to work it loose and get it to turn back and forth all the way. (about 90 degree sweep) Once you have it moving freely, apply a good coat of white lithium spray grease to keep it protected and lubricated. This picture may help, even though its a little small. motor1258_10.jpg Once that's freed up, your shifting problems should go away.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you replace the automatic transmission fluid. If the fluid is burnt, the car tends to shift slowly. Once the fluid is replaced, a smooth ride and shifting will be noticeable. It will not just smoothen the shifting but you will surely have better fuel burning.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

SOURCE: I have a 1996 plymouth

If that has the digital dash there is a crack in the circuit board on back of dash board it will need to be replaced.

Gauges in my 1998 plymouth neon stopped working when i hit a bump

Sounds like an intermittent loss of power to the instrument cluster to me. Remove the instrument cluster and inspect the electrical connectors on the back of the cluster.

I have a 1996 plymouth neon that the dash gages and odometer have a electrical problem. They work when a bump is hit and then stop working the same way.

Speedometer and odometer both are not working. if i hit a bump my speedometer might work but not all the time

This sounds like your speed sensor may be bad. It's located usually toward the top of the transmission. Also make sure the cabling going to the sensor itself is tight and the connections are clean. The speed sensor shouldn't cost any more than around $20 and is available at just about every auto parts store.

I hope this helps! :)

1997 Neon if the crank sensor was bad would the car just stop running when going down the street? Car run great when just sitting in yard but while going down road will cut off.replaced the following...

change the crankshaft sensor. it's located in the cylinder block, where the alternator is, above the oil filter. make sure the car is cool & raise the car on jackstands. go under the car & find the oil filter & right above it is the crankshaft sensor. take it out from the cylinder block & pull out the red stop clip. after that, pull out the sensor from the wire clip & install the new sensor. installation is reverse of removal. now your car shouldn't stop.

My plymoth neon shuts off when i stop at lights for a long time or a short time but it starts right back up what is it i was going to replace the fuel pump but i dont want to if that is not the problem

I dont think it would be the fuel pump, or else no fuel would to delivered to the engine.
i would try cleaning the throttle body first, as dirty throttle body's can cause rough idling and stalling while stopped or slow speeds.

I have a 1997 Plymouth Neon. The car runs great. The lights all come on but the gauges suddenly stopped working. It was fine yesterday..could it be a fuse?

Try a couple of good thumps with fist above dash (don't laugh) where cluster gauges are, and see if it comes back on, or may when you hit a bump. I had a 95 that did it all the time until I fixed it. If a bump or thump gets it back on, let me know, I'll give you details on fixing.
