Replace the copper contacts inside the starter motor, it connects the current to the rotor once the bendix drive gear is engaged with the ring gear.

SOURCE: how to remove starter from 1998 honda accord

Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: If you have an anti-theft radio, make sure you have the activation code before disconnecting the battery.

Remove the battery and battery tray from the engine compartment (remove the battery first, then remove the bolts for the battery tray and remove it.).

Remove the lower radiator hose and the wiring harness from the starter bracket. Make sure they are positioned out of the way.

Clearly label, then disconnect the wires from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid (the smaller cylinder attached to the starter). Disconnect any clips securing the wiring to the starter.

Remove the mounting bolts (two) and detach the starter (pull it gently out of its housing).

Reverse this procedure for installation.

Hope this is of help to you.

disconnect the cable to the battery........there is 3 bolt holding the starter to the engine/transmission housing. You may need to remove the air intake manifold to gain access to the work area.

1998 Honda Accord won't start. Hear electrical clicking sound coming from behind the glove box area. What could be causing this?

-There are couple thing that cause not to start:
*Before check the following, make sure battery is full of charge.
1. No thing at all. Possible Corrosion battery cable or bad connector or starter relay. (Visual Inspect it) Clean it or tight it
2.Click but never turn or start. Starter has dirty contact or worn out. (Replace W/new one)

Good luck

Disconnect the + battery cable. Disconnect all wires on the starter, and remove the mounting bolts. Wiggle the starter out of the engine bay, and replace with the one you want to use. Reinstall the bolts and wires, and reconnect the battery + wire.

I have a 96 Honda Accord EX. Key on all dash lights come on. Turn the key to start and no response. What do I need to look for? Battery checks OK

Have you cleaned the battery terminals? You may also have a sticking starter selonoid. Tap it lightly with a screwdriver handle or small wooden mallet. If this doesn't work you may have to replace the starter after cleaning all the starter connections. It could also be the starter relay. Have it checked out first. Good luck!

My car won't start, only a single click sound.

Replace the starter. If its a Nippondenso Starter a Alt/Starter shop can just replace the Solenoid Contacts.

My honda accord 1996 lx won't start

Your starter bendix isnt engaging, if your replace your starter your problem should go away. The rappid ( firing ) you are hearing is the starter spinning but the bendix isnt moving out and engaging the flywheel.
