I have a 1999 landcruser. I purchased it new and keep the service up good until about 5 years ago. It has 260,000 miles on it and all service was done regurlar until about 215000. I have not had major service since then. Just changed oil ,filters, rotated tires, fixed a/c leak. The landcrusier is a third veh. About 2 months ago it suddenlly did not want to take the gas, hesitated, but eventully kept running and snothed out. I drove it 200 miles before it did it again. Then another 200 mile trip no problem. I took it to toyoto and had it checked out, they could find no problem. I drove it home parked it ,took my other car and left for 2 weeks. I came home cranked the landcruser , left in it and it wanted not to take the gas. I drove it about 5 miles and check engine light came on. I drove it home ,left it, went out today, next day and it cranked as always, the check engine light was not on and the veh. Has been running good all day.

You do not have to replace the fuel pump at a specific mileage.
I hate to speculate without physically inspecting the vehicle, but, my best solution here & now may be the fuel pump. Now, I would not go out & buy one before you had proper diagnosis. Here is one test, but you will need to have to experience the stall again, and then test to see if you have fuel pressure at the injectors. If you have no fuel pressure, replace the pump. Fuel filter issues do not "come & go", they stay, and your car would not run properly. Also, a fuel pump failure will not set a computer code on this particular model vehicle. Hope this helps..
SOURCE: Check engine and VSC lights on
I talked to you on the live chat, and I think that you may have missed the end of my typing...
What I went on to say is that more often than not, on the 02 4Runners, the Check and VSC lights in tandem look mainly after the emission system, and, since you stated no issues during the road test, I would guess that it is a fuel issue (too full/loose gas cap). But, if you can get the vehicle scanned, I will be very glad to provide you with more and better info if you provide me with the DTC codes. That would require your guy or an autozone hookup to a scan tool. I hope my clarification helps; and the graciouness of a FIxYa rating for this question would be greatly appreciated
SOURCE: Toyota camry 2001emission not ready (Readiness == Fail )
The system has to complete a certain number of drive cycles to complete the system readiness function, this is a mixture of stop and go, highway and idling, I admit it should have cleared by now, but try to do a mixture of driving, just highway won't do it, it should complete soon, if it doesn't then there is a problem that will have to be diagnosed.
SOURCE: quantity of engine oil used in 1 HD engine toyota land cruiser
if you have just bought the car change the oil and the filters asap on the grounds that the oil and filters may have not been changed for quite a while also change air and fuel filters also and grease any steering and tail shaft joints check brake fluid and water levels also and for any leaks around brakes gearbox and differential then every 5000km change oil and every 10000 change filters and spark plugs start with 4liters of oil let settle check level and keep topping up until close to full mark fill oil slightly under than over too much oil will build up pressure and burst oil seals in motor the more expensive the oil the better the quality its a bit like scotch whiskey best of luck glenn.......

obviously they did disconnect a sensor while they were working on your vehicle.this will set a code in your vehicle's computer. They call this a soft code since there was not a failure but it just did not sense a signal. After reconnecting it clears the code after so many ignition cycles, meaning turning the key on and off so many times. The code is stored in the computer so it would be a good idea to take it to the dealer to check it out and make sure there are no other problems
