Take off the rear tires and the drums. there is a cable at the bottom of your wheel bearing assembly, thats your emergency brake cable. try to push and pull it. follow the line up the side of the car and try to push and pull as far as you can. you may also be able to spray it with pb blaster to break it free from the dirt and corrosion

I have a passat 2006 fsi. The Parking breaks wont release after pressing the release button

I had the same problem on my Passat Variant 2007.
Randomly Park Brake won't activate and/or deactivate once button PB pressed.
The cockpit computer tells "Park Brake Error" (or something similar).
If this is your problem, the issue is very well known to VW Service centers.
I had solved it by bringing the car to the Service: The told me that they substituted the ParkBrake Button (a differently made one, even if identical on the exterior) and Reprogramming (Updating) the car computer software.

Parking brake light won't go off after releasing brake lever

Park brake lights normally operate by a small plunger type switch the turns off when the level or pedal is placed in the off position. Over time the spring in the lever weakens and placing the lever in the off position no longer depresses the switch. The switch can sometimes be adjusted to make better contact, or the switch bracket can be bent so the lever and switch make proper contact.

Shift lever will not move out of park. Engine is running, seat belt fastened, parking brake released, all doors hood and trunk closed, foot firmly on brake pedal. When the button on the side of the shifter...

you should hear a click from the solenoid when you apply the brakes. If your brake lights don't work, your shift lock release won't either. There is a bypass method for emergencies in your owner manual. Check fuse for brake lights. And switch on brake pedal

Shift lever lock won't release when brake pedal is

do the brake lights work? most of the time the problem is a broken wire at the brake light switch under the dash on the brake pedal. the ECM does not see the signal from the switch so it won't allow the car to shift from park.

Parking brake won;t release

if it willnot release, then most likely one of two things has happened.

1. The release inside the vehicle has broken away from the the actual cable,
2. The cable it self is frozen.

Either way, you will need to get under the vehicle to see what happens when some one inside the vehicle is trying the release.

Does the brake light stay on, indicating that the brake is on?
