2000 chevy siverado z71 4x4 not working

My Silverado is a z71 4x4 and as a common problem the 4x4 is not working. I have replaced motor on transfer case and the switch on the dash and yes the service 4x4 light is still on. I have also checked the ground and made sure it is good. it does work sometimes so I believe it has a bad connection somewhere. the lights on the switch flash when you turn on the ignition or start the truck. Also when it does work and you try to switch back and forth from 2hi to 4hi it will only do that a few times then quit. Can anyone help me with this?

Yes we can ! With the light on and or flashing , DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the 4X4 control module . Have the codes check , not at auto zone or any other parts stores . There code reader tool will not pull this codes . Need to take to a qualified repair shop . Testing also needs to done , not guessing an throwing parts at it . This 4X4 system can set a number of codes .

DTC C0387 Unable to Perform Shift
Circuit Description
The transfer case encoder is a switch that converts a shaft position, representing a mode or range position, into electrical signals for use by the transfer case shift control module. The encoder houses 4 Hall effect sensors that are used for channels P, A, B, and C. These sensors provide a path to ground, when a magnet, (part of the Motor Encoder), passes over them.
The transfer case shift control module supplies an 8 V reference and a ground circuit for the encoder hall effect sensors to function.
The transfer case shift control module supplies current limited 5 V on all the channels, thus as these channels are pulled to ground, the module can interpret the location of the transfer case shift position.
This DTC detects that the transfer case is unable to successfully complete a shift to a requested mode or range.

SOURCE: My 98 chevy blazer won't shift into 4wd.

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray. The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

SOURCE: 95 Blazer 4X4 Problem

Ok I just got my 4x4 working again. I got it to work by taking out the 4wd, brake, and I believe the ctsy fuses for about one minute each and put them back in and now my 4x4 works like it used to. If that works for anyone else great, but if not then good luck finding a better solution to the 4x4 problem.

SOURCE: stuck in 4 wheel drive and wont come out.

hey there i cant tell you what you are missing but i can tell you how to disengage the front wheels . ok you have a vacum line that runs right under the battery and a line that comes up from the front diff. to the same place ( you may have to remove batt and batt tray to get full access to this) un bolt it and temporaly put batt and batt tray back in start it up and decompress this and see if it comes out .... you should here clunking noise if it goes back in ... if thats the case just pull that big vaccum line off .... to test get all four tires off the ground and have some one put it in drive but dont hit the gas it should turn on its own ...if that dont work check the cable that runs down to the differental

My 2000 chevy siverado will not start after we tooj it to the car wash but never spraued the engine ... whats the problem?

Lots of possibilities: Fuel pump or bad wiring to the fuel pump. CKP sensor or wiring to CKP sensor. Ignition module. Check for fuel and spark. These are basic no-start chevy truck checks.

Replacing brake switch on a 2000 Chevy Siverado, wil lthios take care of the problem...brake lights work okay..but when you brake and signal at the same time it stays lit solid and when our back up...

Check the brightness of the bulbs when they work. It sounds like a filiment broke in one of them and is laying across the other filiment in the bulb causing all lights to come on at times or not at all. You probably have one or more bad bulbs.

Chevy pickup 4-wheel drive won't engage

Replace the push button selector assembly. Common failures. If that isnt the problem then the encoder motor on transfer case has failed. Try switch first.
