Light Engen comes on

wont crank or cranks fast but will not start???????????????????
what engine is there, we cant guess them , ever. gas or diesel?
the CEL must glow key on then go out running, that is normal.
you need to stop thinking the CEL is magic nor the ECU behind it

in USA the 2.0L is king but you never said country,.... so......
the J20 is cam chain drive, good for 250k miles, fresh oil all the time.

dash lamps dim, or dead, head lights dim or dead.
so that is called NO CRANK
or my starter is silent or its , just clicks
that is a DEAD battery, left head lights on, charge it now. fix phantom drains.
or cables rusty
or alternator(or related) dead. (car will stall driven after battery charged)
or battery is bad.

Have you checked your oil level? Is it over full on the dipstick? What does the oil look like - clear or milky? If milky, you may have had a head gasket failure or crack in the block/head that allowed coolant into the crankcase. If you kept running the engine after this, it may very well have seized. The timing chain can't get 'too tight', so that is not your problem.
Use a breaker bar with the appropriate sized socket and see if you can manually rotate the crankshaft pulley. If not, your engine is going to need some serious work (or replacement).

please you must need to pass the scanner for to detect if the bulb or some sensor is faulty. Is the best way. Otherwise your must waste your time. and mone.

Make model and year, and have you had the computer scanned for trouble codes yet ?

To clarify, the check engine light should stay on until the engine starts.
Someone will need to figure out if you are lacking spark to the plugs, fuel to the injectors, or compression to proceed.

Check the oil in motor if that is fine then it could be a batch of bad fuel try getting your fuel at a different location.

sounds like a short in your ECM. (electronic control module) the computer that runs your systems. it also runs the check engine light and lets you know when a sensor or something isnt working. you will need a good mechanic that knows how to do the electronics in a car.

It is located in the rear under the fuel tank.You will see a black plastic cover over it.

The check engen light should be on if it's a fuel prob. or other senser such as an idle air controll valve. If no light is on, clean the throttle body and add fuel system cleaner.
