Was this problem there before you changed the fuel filter and cleaned the intake? If so, check your fuel pump.

SOURCE: i have a 1993 s10 blazer 4.3l 6cyl cpi. this truck

I had the same problem in my 91' s10 blazer. Drain the tank, then put about 5 gallons of premium gas. After that put fuel system cleaner and sea foam in the tank. Let it sit their for about an hour. try to crank up the car (you might have to put gas right on the carb until the gas in the tank gets to the engine). If that dose not work you might want to take it to a shop and have them clean the fuel system by hand. It might also be the fuel sensor. I hope this helped also up date us on other problems and if any of our suggestions have helped.

SOURCE: warm running problems

If you have fuel pressure when the engine is warm you must have an electical problem--try getting ur coil checked--make sure engine is warm when u check it.

SOURCE: overreving with no power and

usually caused by busted diaphram in fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel to be drawn thru regulator directly to intake manifold. Pull vacuum line off regulator, plug line with golf tee, start car and watch to see if gas comes out of regulator. If yes, turn off car, replace regulator. The regulator sits near the fuel rail on the top of the engine as shown below. I will paste replacement instructions below from autozone.com in case you need to replace the regulator. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Removal & Installation

4.2L Engine

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet resonator.
  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the retaining clips at the front of the engine.
  4. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
  5. Clean any dirt from the fuel pressure regulator and the surrounding area.
  6. Disconnect the fuel return pipe.
  7. Remove the fuel return pipe retainer.
  8. Remove the fuel pressure regulator retainer.
  9. Remove the fuel pressure regulator.
  10. Inspect the regulator filter screen for contamination. If contaminated, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

To install:
  1. Install the regulator filter.
  2. Install the new O-ring on the fuel pressure regulator.
  3. Lubricate the fuel pressure regulator O-ring with clean engine oil.
  4. Push the fuel pressure regulator into the regulator housing on the fuel rail.
  5. Install the fuel pressure regulator retainer. Tighten the regulator retainer screw to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6. Install the fuel return pipe retainer. Tighten the return pipe retainer screw to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  7. Connect the fuel return pipe.
  8. Connect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Inspect for leaks:
    1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    3. Turn ON the ignition.
    4. Inspect for fuel leaks.

  11. Install the engine wiring harness into the retaining clips at the front of the engine.
  12. Install the air intake resonator.

I have a 2004 Mercury sable 24 valve. It sputters and now it will cut off when I try to accelerate.

When was last fuel filter change? For that matter when was last tune up? Seriously, sounds like fuel filter, especially this time of year. With big temperature swings condensation (water) forms in fuel tank. Run a bottle of STP gas treatment through it then change fuel filter.

change your fuel filter and check the fuel pressure on the fuel pump you may have gotten some bad fuel try some STP gas treatment make sure you have a half tank of gas and add a little more go somewhere you can drive 55MPH give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

  1. There is water, sand, or rust in the tank that is choking the fuel filter.
  2. Then clean the throttlebody if problem persist.
  3. In the most extreme cases the air intake and or filter maybe blocked but this is rare.

96 windstar,power lose

Start withe the cheapest fix first. When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? Sounds like a plugged fuel filter but I would also check the air filter. It obviously has spark since it was running and if the air filter is clean then all that is left to check is the fuel system. When you turn on the ignition you should be able to hear the fuel pump cycle to pressurize the fuel system. If the pump does not make any noise, then hit the bottom of your fuel tank with a hammer. This will sometimes make the pump work again but should be replaced ASAP. Take off your air intake and look down the throttle body while someone else turns over the engine. You should be able to see the injectors pulsing fuel into the engine. Do you have a 3.8l engine? If so, they are notorious for the timing cover seals leaking. This means that antifreeze will leak into your oil pan and wash down your rod and main bearings. That means that your engine is in need of a rebuild.

My 2001 new Beetle will not stay running. It starts up, then 5-8 seconds later will sputter out and die. If I pump the gas peddle a bit after it starts, it trys to stay running longer but then sputters out...

Hi There,
Try this: You will need 2 people - Have someone Spray Starting Fluid in the throttle then start the car and have someone spray the fluid continuously into the throttle. If the car continues to run you have a fuel problem, but if it stalls out, replace the coil pak. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
