If your vehicle does NOT have a Serpentine Belt, then check each belt, Power Steering Pump & Alternator, for slack (looseness) in the belts. If they are loose, find the bolt tentioner for that component, loosen, readjust Power Steering Pump and/or Alternator, and tighten it up. If your vehicle has a Serpentine Belt, then check it for cracks & splitting. It may be ready to fail on you. You'll probably have to take in to a mechanic and have them replace it. Good luck

SOURCE: why does the serpenteen belt come off when i drive through water

This is one of theose questions that I had to research over and over again for the same problem I had. I had a 1998 voyager and a 1998 caravan ,same van right? The voyagers belts would always come off when I hit a puddle of water hard enough or a fair amount of snow. The caravan was fine never had a problem. What I found out by researhing the problem is that the bottom crank wheel is the problem. For some reason they used two different types for the caravan and voyager. the crank wheel on the caravan actually has deeper grooves on it so the belt does not slip off the wheel as easy. I had to replace the wheel with one from a caravan and it fixed the problem. Another solution is to make sure the plastic housing on the bottom of the engine (splash guard) is intact and is tight to keep the water out. If you have a spot where the water can spray up and hit the belt on the bottom wheel seal it so it cannot hit it anymore. Make sure your belt is tight with the correct amount of play and replace the tentioner if needed.

Best of luck

SOURCE: I replaced my altenator a week ago. Now my power

There are several possibilities.
1. power steering pump locked up or locking up (extremely low fluid could cause this)
2. a random pully could have locked up and caused the belt to break, resulting in a loss of power steering.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Power Steering Belt slipping

Hi!!

Just apply some ENGINE DEGREASER on the belts and pulleys, rinse them with plain water, making sure the electrical components don't get wet. That will take care of your problem.

Belt is slipping because of wear or loose tension. Now it is contaminated with power steering fluid it needs a new belt. Clean the all the pulleys it runs on first.

While turning and hitting a puddle 03 gr Cherokee loses power steering.

is their any chance the belt is getting wet and slipping or do you lose power steering whenever you turn? if so check that all your power steering lines are not leaking (presure line will spray out , return line will just drip) check and repair as necesary

Power steering went out while driving and battery

If the belt gets wet and flies off, or starts to slip, the power steering and alternator will stop spinning causing this condition.

Check belts to see if they are still on the truck and spinning the pulleys of the alternator and power steering pump.

I drive though a puddle of water and the battery light come on and I losre power steering. I put a serpintine belt on about two years ago

mcdevito75 here, Chances are your driveing too fast thru puddles, water is getting on the belt causeing it to slip and water also hittind electricall system, cils / Alternator etc. go slower thru puddles, better yet avoid them as you could get stuck.

Loud squealin from power steering belt

Check the tension of the power steering belt.
It is probably loose and slipping - belts can stretch during their initial run in period.

I have A 08 Chev Immpala LS that loses power steering after going through a water puddle. It also has a short squeak when starting the motor.

first of all this car should be under warranty. take it back to the dealer and tell them what it is doing. if not under warranty try changing the belt and belt tensioner. it sounds like the belt is slipping on the pulley when wet. and the start up noise is from a loose belt.

My escort van when first starting up the steerin is stiff

could be alot of things but first guess would be your belt is slipping/ loose. Your belt would run your power steering and alternator (batt light), dampness could jump be contributing to make the belt slip a little. I would definitely advise you have it looked at though because if you loose your power steering and alternator when you are driving it can be a very scary situation. hope this helps :)
