Mercedes-Bnez W221 4-zone HVAC heat stuck left-rear passenger

I have a 2010 S550 with four-zone / rear-seat climate control. The vents for the left-rear passenger are all blowing/venting HOT air. I've tried moving the temperature setting from LO to HI, HI to LO, powering off and on, and tried changing settings from the rear control panel and the front COMAND controller. No change. Pretty much stuck on hot (max hot) for the left-rear seat zone. It's a temperature issue for this seat, the controls from either the rear seat controller or the main COMAND controller function to change where the air is vented to, and the temperature changes work fine for the right-rear passenger from either controller. On any other car I'd assume its a stuck blend door or actuator motor, but with the complexity of these models, I wanted to rule-out a computer calibration issue if that is something to consider? Also, I understand that on some other models there is a way to access error codes from the climate control system. Is that possible on the W221 and if so can you provide that procedure?

You really need help from a dealer tech if you cant read it in your own question, i would point out that dealer test equipment is most reliable, and use of service bulletins to find whats the latest fix for this kind of issue on this make and model. you are asking to research and find what he fixes daily. please consult them to get answer if you can.. if they are not available where you are there is always benz world and pelican. some technicians frequent those sites and answer what they can.

SOURCE: 2004 suburban rear a/c only blows hot air

ase mechanic:
there are separate actuators for the blend doors. one for heat and one for cool. they work opposite and in conjuction with each other, if that makes any sense. ones open, ones close, for each different climate. sounds like the the cold one isn't opening in the rear.

SOURCE: Air conditioner blows hot air after 30 seconds on

I have had this problem. I am not a mechanic...so to correct the issue temporarily, I simply turn off the car and restart. This has worked everytime for me. In extreme cases, I think you can also remove the AC fuse and start the car, which will also reset the computer. I also think that by taking the climate control off the "AUTO" setting has worked in the past.

What would cause heat to blow out of one vent and cold out of the other?

A heater core is a component inside the HVAC box (located under the dash) that is heated by engine coolant. Vent temperature is increased by routing air through the heater core before it comes out of the vents. The temperature requested by the HVAC control module determines how much air passes through the heater core and how much air bypasses it. This event is called air "mixing" or "blending" which refers to the hot air and cold air ratio. Air routing through and/or bypassing the heater core is carried out by the use of a blend door and blend door actuator. Over time these two components can fail mechanically which often results in abnormal noises and improper positioning leading to undesired temperatures. Now, higher-end A/C systems with dual-zone climate control have multiple blend doors and actuators; this is how how the two different temperature "zones" are achieved. A failure with only one of the zone's blend door/actuator would result in desired temperature out of one zone's vents and abnormal temperature out of the other zone's vents. I have a 2003 envoy xl. heat and ac only come out driver side defrost & left vent.No air or heat out of driver or passenger floor .Passenger vent and defrost is cool air only

Air temperature and delivery are controlled via small actuators on the heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) box located behind the dashboard. These actuators operate doors inside the HVAC box in order to channel air through different passages to achieve the desired result. A "blend" door actuator can channel air through the heater core, around the heater core or a mix of these two to achieve the desired temperature. A "mode" door actuator can direct airflow to the ducts that lead to the defrost vent, front vent, floor vent or a mix between. When a vehicle has dual climate control (where driver and passenger sides of the vehicle can have different air temperatures) there can be multiple of actuators of each type which can make diagnosis difficult. The first step would be to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the HVAC Control Module using an advanced level scan tool; these codes help determine the location of the issue and if it's an electronic or mechanical failure. Electronic failures would include items such as HVAC control module failure, actuator circuit failure or actuator failure. Mechanical failures would include items such as actuator failure or internal HVAC box door failure. 2010 F150 Lariat. Dual climate control works only on passenger side. Rear temperature controls work fine. Driver side or left vents only blow hot air. Regardless if AC is turned on or temperature...

If the driver's blend door actuator has failed completely, or the wiring to it is damaged, you will not hear any clicking. Check for appropriate voltage at the blend door actuator, and determine from there if it's the actuator or the control unit.

Heat comes thru driver's side vents, but blows cold air thru passenger side vents

You likely have a faulty blend door. It could be electrically, mechanically related, or even a broken door. It may be the blend door motor, or possibly the temp sensor.

My ac only blows cold air out the driver side vents. The passenger vents and the rear seat vents just blow air.

There is a "blend" door on some models with automatic climate control and/or dual zone heat and air. If your model has this option, this might be the source of your problem. Possibly the blend door is stuck and can be freed easily if you're lucky. I have heard of some repairs for this problem to be quite costly, so definitely check around and get several diagnoses from reputable sources before jumping into this.

2004 gmc 1500 heat is only blowing on passenger side. driver side is blowing cold air.

sounds like you have dual zone climate control in your truck. Most likely the actuator that controls the temp door in the HVAC box

04 Chevy Tahoe Climate control issues.

HVAC control head problem or it is the air Temp Control Valve problem. THe control head is the one with the buttons and knobs and the control vavle is located on the HVAC carrier assembly underneath dashboard (two of them one on left and one on right in center). This is a job for someone who has knowledge of HVAC and electrical on a GM vehicle.
