2006 Chevy Cobalt Ls Coupe Power Steering Problem

Driving the car (2006 Chevy Cobalt Ls Coupe) a 'Power Steering' light went off, with a beep. Then, the steering wheel went hard and made it a struggle to turn. I'm an 18 year old girl. And i am no mistress in distress, with a black belt - and with the 'Power Steering' its nearly impossible to make a U-Turn. Checking online, apparently many people have had problems with this. Especially the 2005-06 models. I took it to the dealership, and they said the whole piece had to be replaced. This is because the steering is electronic - there's no steering fluid. Anyway, the piece costs around $900, and for the actual work its around $600. Coming to a total of around $1,500! My dad got the dealer guy to lower the price of the piece to $400, and a mechanic friend of his is willing to do the job for around $150. So now its $550. Either way, not many people are as luck as I, and this problem should'nt have been an issue in the first place. The car has 50,000 miles and this is the only problem I have with the car. I bought it used, its my first car. Excitement over the first car got the best of me, and i didn't pay attention to what i was buying. Now i'm paying the price for it. I'm happy wit the car though... I just hope there aren't any more problems with the car after this one is resolved.

Oh, we took it to AutoZone and when the guy did a check to see if there was anything wrong with the car, nothing came up. It was impossible to detect, that's why the entire piece has to be replaced.

2006 Cobalt LS Coupe Intermittent Starting Problem

sounds about right, probably is ignition switch, reason you don't get codes is because if power is'nt connecting to engine while problems occurs then ecm won't pick it up. you should have 2 ignition switches, (the lock cylinder and key switch, the other is the electrical, usually located under the dash, and commonly atttatched to the column close to the firewall, check connections first, it may just be a loose plug in connection

I've had my 2006 chevy cobalt LS since 2007 and has never had the transmission flushed.when and or should it ever be flushed?

Every vehicle should have the automatic trans fluid changes at 30,000 miles and never go over
3 years, even if the milage is less.
Also,do the power steering at the same time.

2006 Chevy Cobalt. My power steering goes out.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.

Where to put steering fluit in the cobalt ls 2006

There is no place. The Cobalt has an electric power steering system. There is a bad problem with this car. My nephew had problems and when checking found out that there are way too many problems with this system. The entire steering column assembly has to be replaced. There is no recall issued on this for the Cobalt, but I heard that there was a similar issue recall for the Malibu. Hope this helps. I feel your pain!!
