These codes are all for the Evaporative Emissions System.

P0440- Evaporative emissions system fault- just saying there's something wrong with the system.

P0441- Evaporative emissions system- Incorrect purge flow- saying that the system isn't purging the raw fuel vapors (hydrocarbons- HC) as well as it should.

P0446- Evaporative emissions system- Control valve circuit low- there is a valve, usually located on the charcoal canister at the rear of the vehicle, that opens to allow fresh air to enter the evaporative emissions system as the engine vacuum purges the fuel vapors from the charcoal canister and closes when purge is not needed to prevent leakage of those fuel vapors to the atmosphere (HC is a greenhouse gas and is regulated as such by the fed gov't).

Given that you have the incorrect purge flow code and the control valve code together, my bet is that the vent control valve has failed (causing the P0446) and is not opening to allow fresh air into the system to displace the air from within the system that is being pulled to the engine. Since you have no fresh air entering the system, the engine will pull a vacuum on the system instead of the vapors "flowing" into the engine (causing the P0441).

I hope that this is helpful to you!!!

P0420 indicates you have a catalyst efficiency issue; replacement of the Air-Fuel Sensor should take care of that;
The P0441, P0446 and (I assume P0440); you said 446 twice, indicates a faulty or loose fuel cap; it is not sealing properly.
Please feel free to respond to me if you have any further questions.
A FixYa rating from you regarding my assistance would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: 2003 toyota Matrix code p0441 and p0446...need help

p0441 - Evaporative emission control system Incorrect purge flow. can be caused by a lot of things and is usually related to a small leak in the emission control evap system, try replacing the gas cap and see if it helps, if not, the system needs to be tested for a leak with the scantool or a leak tester or both.
usually you will see p0440 p0441 and p0446 together but before anything replace your gas cap and besure to tighten it down when you gas up the vehicle, 90% of the time with those codes either a loose gas cap of bad gas cap gasket is the problem

Otherwise - Might be a canister leak, defective VSV valve or hoses, bad gascap seal.

I have a 2002 dodge status how do fix p1400 p0446 p0441 codes

code p0446 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system--vent control--circuit malfunction===causes wiring--EVAP canister purge valve--ECM
Code p0441 is evap system--incorrect flow detected==causes --hose connections --intake leak--EVAP canister purge valve
replace the purge valve as it is common to both codes
dodge code p1400 is related to a problem EGR system

Po441 & po440 engine codes

Here is detailed info:

These codes tell you that there is a vaccuum leak.

Check your gas cap to see if it is tight, if it is, you should probably replace it as that will cause the codes to appear. Here is some more detailed information as well.

DTC P0440 is recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the components within the dotted line in Fig. 1, or when the vapor pressure sensor malfunctions.

DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the components within the dotted line in Fig. 1, or when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.

Basically, the P0440 code is set when there is a vacuum leak in the system, at cold engine start the VSV is open and pulls the lines into a vacuum. Then the VSV closes and the vacuum should stay roughly at the same spot. If the pressure increases rapidly (aka loses vacuum) then the pressure sensor sees that and sets a DTC and turns on the MIL. From what I gather from P0441, the system doesn't pull into a vacuum.

Had OBD2 codes P0441 & P0446 on my 1999 Toyota Corolla. Replaced the VSV CHARCOAL EVAPORATORE, disconnected the battery, check engine light went out. came back on this am, took the car to advanced auto...

According to my 2002 Toyota Tundra manual (and it may be different for your car) P0125 is as follows:
Insufficient Coolant Temperature
for Closed Loop Fuel Control

This would seem unrelated to your original problem.

OBDII CODE PO446. WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED

The vapor pressure sensor, VSV for canister closed valve (CCV), VSV for pressure switching valve are used
to detect abnormalities in the evaporative emission control system.
The ECM decides whether there is an abnormality in the evaporative emission control system by the vapor
pressure sensor signal.
DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the components
when there is a malfunction anywhere in the VSV for EVAP, the VSV
for pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.

checked basic , gas cap.

More than likely you need to take to a garage , rec. dealership
will have to perform a smoke check to see if there is a leak somewhere or wether there is a malfunction with a vac. solinoid valve(vsv)

2001 toyota 4runner< engine light on, code comes out to be - p0441 auto zone said change gas cap, i did, 2 weeks later light comes on again< what do you think?

You can get this code if you don't tighten the gas cap all the way, or the gas cap is bad. I will put all the detail for the code below and what I would do to fix the problem...

NOTE: Do not top off your tank either. This could cause the 'overfill check valve' to fail, and could cause this code.

Definition of P0441: Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect
Purge Flow

Detection logic:
DTCs P0441 and P0446 are recorded by the ECM when evaporative emissions leak from the emissions components
or when there is a malfunction in either the VSV for EVAP, the VSV for
pressure switching valve, or in the vapor pressure sensor itself.
detection cause: Pressure in charcoal canister and fuel tank does not drop or
drop in pressure increased beyond the specified limit during
purge control (2 trip detection logic)

What I would do:
1. Replace fuel cap and reset computer. If code returns, then proceed to next

The next steps require a diagram, so the purchase of service manual to locate the components is very helpful

2. Check for vacuum leaks in ALL emission hoses
3. Check VSV valve operation (there are three; they are ~$75 new from dealer, and sometimes fail)
4. Check for cracks or leaks around or in the charcoal canister (usually requires a smoke machine)
5. check for voltage to VSV's
6. Last resort: take it to the dealer and have them run a diagnosis. This should run between $50-$100.

Good luck!

99 Camry, P0441 & P0446 codes

A. Diagnostics for PO441:

1. Remove Vacuum Hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister and discard.
2. If there is a metal vapor pipe between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister, clean inside of vapor
pipe
3. Replace EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister assembly with new parts.
4. Install new vacuum hoses between EVAP VSV and Charcoal Canister.

B. Diagnostics for P0446:

1. Inspect vacuum hoses and pipes between EVAP (Purge) VSV and Charcoal Canister for leaks.
2. Replace Vapor Pressure VSV and Canister.
NOTE :When performing diagnostics for an occurrence of a MIL "ON" condition, Diagnostic
Trouble Code (DTC) P0441 may be result of debris in Evaporative Emission Control System. This
may cause blockage of a vapor line, or a stuck VSV, as described in troubleshooting area of Repair
Manual.
