I have a 2002 Cadillac DTS. It randomly dies when idling at stop lights, stop signs, just before backing up, etc. The dashboard service lights are running amok. Some messages that scroll across the screen are "Service Security System", "Service Stability System", "Service Charging System, Battery Not Charging". Fixed lights on the dash that light up include "Traction Control", "Security System" and "Service Engine Soon". The fuel gauge needle will bury itself on empty while driving, then surge back to the correct fuel measurement position. Yesterday it started surging as I was driving it, as if fuel flow was cut off and then restarted. I've taken it to the local Cadillac dealer six times. They said it was a vacuum leak; $700+ in repairs that solved nothing. Then they said it was the battery: $324 and the warning lights came on again as I was driving it home. This morning I took it to a different mechanic, not a dealership, and it wouldn't start after I shut it off. Dead battery, and it's only a week old! They think it's the alternator and I think they are correct. Any other ideas out there?
SOURCE: stability control engaged and my traction contol comes on
all wheel drive and stability control are a lot alike, in fact you are better off with all wheel drive.
These vehicles have all four wheel speed sensors and the braking system keeps the speed of all four as close to the same as possible to control slippage.
Power is decreased to any wheel that is moving faster than the others so optimum traction is obtained. and this may cause this problem.
