Dodge neon shuts off while driving

The car starts and drives and runs fine. It just had a tune up and new oxygen sensor and catalytic converter. It is like a phantom kill switch. The car is running fine then all power is lost it has happened twice once I had it towed to a mechanic who ran diagnostics on it and found no codes on the computer. He tried to start it and it ran fine again. I died again today and I pulled off the road when I lost power. I made several attempts to restart then it started after a couple of minutes. What are my options?

The neon has a problem with the wiring near the engine mounts in that it breaks or otherwise looses connectivity and that set of wires are for the cam position sensor
with that sensor not reporting to the ECM , the engine is turned off when there is not reaction from the engine , connection is restored and so ti start up again
check in the wiring harness in that area for the problem

I have a 2000 dodge neon, when i drive for a good 5 mins the car just shuts off but the lights and everything are still on. Its almost like the car just runs out of gas but has a full tank and also says fuse on the speedometer but im guessing thats a different problem

SOURCE: my 1999 dodge v10 2500 4x4 truck dies while

Hello
Something that you may want to check, or have checked is the, ( MAF ), " mass air flow ", sensor.
Some of the symptoms are, bad idle, loss of engine's power, stalling, and eventually preventing the
engine from starting, especially in cold weather.

This is usually easy to check;

The sensor is usually located in the air intake duct system, the duct system that the air filter is in )
between the air filter and the engine. Most have a plug with 4 or 5 wires. Very carefully discon-
nect the plug. If the engine doesn't start either remove the battery cables and clean them very
good, or try to jump start the engine. Once the engine is running leave the plug off and go for a
short test drive to see if you notice the engine performing better.

You can drive while this is disconnected, but try not to do that too long. It can cause other
sensors to trigger the, " check engine light ", and over a longer period of time can damage the
catalytic converter.

Some handy people go to a parts store and get, " mass air flow ", cleaner. It does seem to work
well, but you have to follow the instructions very closely.

I hope this helps you.

Sounds like you are having a fuel problem with the fuel filter. If you have not had your car serviced in quite awhile i would do so. At least change the fuel filter and check the air filter as well. Hope thias will help you.

SOURCE: Car stalling out and bot starting after being driven for awhile.

mcdevito75 Here, It"s possible the ignition Module is going bad, no way to test and if so, one day the car will not start at all.----------It can also be a vapor loc, wher the fuel is evaporating before it reaches the cylinders. Best Bet, have your local shop check both these items.

It depends on the problem. Have you replaced the O2 Sensors. Is your car running correctly, proper maintenance been done, filters, oil changes, tune ups, fuel system and induction cleanings. you may need a new cat

2005 dodge neon idle.

Get the code. Codes never tell you to change a sensor, they just indicate the problem circuit they are seeing. Only sometimes it is a failure of the sensor.
You probably need test equipment like a digital voltmeter. Maybe join a neon forum to find out how others solved the problem.

yeah it could a defective computer. or it could be the catalytic converter, a bad oxygen sensor, or a burned exhaust valve. oxygen sensors can be really screwy though. ive had 2 cars get check engine lights because of the oxygen sensor. so i would definitely check that. if you already have though i would be leaning towards a faulty computer.

Need to know where O2 sensor is located on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan.

There are two oxygen sensors: one is upstream of the catalytic converter and one downstream of the catalytic converter. The oxygen sensor, or O2 sensor is usually located near the catalytic converter.Oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter in the exhaust system on the back of the engine. ------- Thanks.Helpmech

P-0420

The definition of code P0420 Is Catalyst Efficiency. You may have an oxygen sensor problem or a catalytic converter problem. Your vehicle has 2 oxygen sensors. Check your oxygen sensors. If they are then you may need a catalytic converter. Depending on your mileage it may be covered under a Dodge emissions warranty. Have it checked by a certified garage first and in the meantime contact your local Dodge dealer and find out the emissions warranty most are 8 yr or 80,000 miles.

Service engine light comes on code is p0420

That code means that the catalytic converter is operating below it's threshold of efficiency. It could be that the cat is clogged which would necessitate getting a new one (the car would run terribly with almost no power) but more often than not the post-cat oxygen sensor is failing. That's the one between the cat and the muffler. Its only purpose is to serve as a comparator against the readings from the primary (pre-cat) sensors, to determine whether the car is working correctly. I'd change that, clear the code, and start driving to see if it comes back.

On the SOHC engine the front (A/F) oxygen sensor is located in the front section of the front catalytic converter. The rear oxygen sensor is located in the rear section of the front catalytic converter. On the DOHC engine the front oxygen sensor is located in the front section of the exhaust system, just past the crossover pipe. The rear oxygen sensor is located in the front section of the catalytic converter.

usually when this happens its either the: spark plugs/ignition coils; melted catalytic converter, or a blown engine. however it could be other things such as a bad engine temperature sensor

Service engine light on

P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold
P1684 simply means the battery was disconnected within the last 50 key starts.
The P0430 is the important code to deal with. Either the catalyst is stopped up or the Oxygen sensor(s) are not working. This problem will effect the driveability of your car very badly. The easy and cheaper thing to replace is your Oxygen sensor (s) (some cars have more than one Oxygen sensor, replace both if that is the case). If that isn't the problem take the car to the dealership because this could be called an emissions problem and most manufacturers have a 100,000 mile warranty on the emissions system, you might be able to get the catalytic converter replaced for free.

Good luck
