Ran Hot, pulled over added water to overflow jug. Car cooled down started right up. Drove a few miles ran hot again.
You just blew your head and gasket. I just had that same thing happen last month. When it over heated is the time that you blew the engine head's gasket. When you kept driving it is when you damaged your engine head. You also should have noticed that the as soon as you put water in the radiator that it was leaking out back of engine from the freeze plug or plugs. Cost of freeze plug is couple bucks "looks like small cup cake tin." The Freeze plug has to be replaced 1st, but depending on how bad the head is damaged you could get off cheap by pouring in a $40 gasket sealer liquid down into the radiator and lots of water to keep the water level up. I would also remove the thermostat and put host back on. Since your car is older that I do not think it ruined the values or rods.

sounds like a fuel pump problem,with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume,try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time,hope this helps

You should check and top of if necessary your coolant reservoir at least once a month. Other fluids to check at least once a month are, brake fluid, engine oil, transmittion fluid (automatics to be checked warm, idling in park).
Overheating is very harmful to your cars engine, and should be avoided/prevented at all cost. Once an engine shuts off due to excessive temperature, damage has already been done.

The computer will shut it down if going over 220+ on most cars. Your car is overheating or a sensor or coil is going bad and heat will cause it to temporarily fail. Get your cooling system checked out thoroughly 1st.
