Gas gauge poblems on 2001 gmc sonoma

Gas gauge inaccurate. when I fill tank it read full then I drive some distance it will drop to 3/4 tank and stay there even if it is low or almost empty. I changed the fuel pump and sensor, the grounding strap is fine. I am puzzled. Only thing I can think of is the gauge is bad. Any other suggestions

SOURCE: gas gauge

The float that moves the gas hand is possibly stuck in the tank. If there's isn't an access hole in the rear of the vehicle you'll have to drop the tank. Unless it becomes free on it's own. Hope this is helpful. Please rate. Thanks

SOURCE: 2006 GMC Envoy gas gauge not functioning properly.

GM had a problem with the fuel sending unit cards inside the fuel tank,If you replace that you should be good to go.

SOURCE: The fuel gauge doesn't read right, makin' low fuel light flash

if the fuel pump is all in-tank; the sending unit built in to the fuel pump is most likely malfunctioning; if so, this will require removal and replacement of the entire fuel pump, sometimes expensive, others not so much

SOURCE: GMC envoy after I filled gas tank the low fuel

You will need to replace the fuel level sensor which is in the fuel tank. They have a lot of problems because the metal fingers on the sensor wear off and gives you the incorrect readings. This will also cause the check engine light to come on.You will probably have a level sensor code. This will be a lot easier if the fuel level is down to about a quarter tank or less. Also you should be able to get just the level sensor and not have to get the complete fuel pump module.Good luck.

My 2010 Mazda 3 is showing full tank of gas when it's actually almost empty therefore it will not accept more gas.

If you cannot fill the tank because of an erroneous reading then it is time to replace the gas gauge sending unit responsible for the anomaly. Hope fully you can do it from the trunk - otherwise you will have to drop the gas tank to gain access.

My polo 1.4 se's fuel gauge has sat on 3 quarters for 3 days now, not normal with the amount of driving I do daily, what could be causing the problem? It changes a bit when on a slope though

Hi Josh:
I'd start by completely filling the fuel tank.
Since you know how far you usually can go on a full tank, when you have gone about alf that distance, the gauge should show about half a tank, and when you've gone just over 3/4 of that distance, the gauge should be starting to show on the low side.
At least, if you know that the gauge is not reading correctly, you won't run out of gas if you keep track of the distance and always fill the tank completely.
Hope this helps.

Low fuel light comes on after i fill gas tank on 2001 gmc sonoma

Check to see if the panel fuel gauge is showing the correct amount of fuel. If that's ok then the fuel tank float may be bad.

Gas gauge not working but it has power

you may have crossed the wires. on the read wire some were but if your pump is in the tank then you have put the wires in the way of the gauge sensor easy thing to do when putting the top back on. just take the top back off and move the wires to the oher side wile holding the top and putting it back on.

sounds like you have a restriction in the fuel inlet pipe,( maybe air locking) also your tank sender unit neads replacing to fix you gauge fault, or it maybe that it has something that is not alowingf it to move freely inside the tank, have a good look inside when low on fuel. through the hole where the sender is fitted.

Fuel gauge is not reading

to the right , i am assuming to the "full tank" reading. am i right?

if i am right, the wire from the gas tank is sending a full tank signal what ever the content of the tank.

meaning the wire is shorted to ground.
or the sending unit is faulty. there is a short to ground reading between the sending unit.

you can test which one is faulty. remove the wire from the sending unit. observe the gauge. if the gauge would go to " empty" then the culprit is the sending unit. if it stays on " full tank", then the wire is faulty.

WARNING: GASOLINE IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. BE VERY CAREFUL IN HANDLING NEAR THEM.
