1998 subaru forester runs rough when it rains.

I have a 1998 subaru forester. everytime it rains the engine runs rough and has a tough time accelerating. I changed the plugs and wirea and gave it an oil change. I can reset the computer and lose the check engine light but if it rains again the problem comes back.

According to the repair manual, this car has a distributorless ignition. When I had the code checked at Autozone, it came up as "ignition fault in cylander 2". But like I say, this only happens when it rains.

Do you have a distruibuter cap for this vehicle? I had an 88 Accord, and when the distrubuter cap cracked it had problems running in the rain. Hope this helps.

Check the cap and rotor for internal carbon tracking or, just change them. Also, take a look at the coil when its dark and rainy and see if there is any arcing where the coil wire goes into it.

OOPS not enough coffee yet...same idea though look for arcing as I said wherever the ignition wires connect to. Could be a bad coil pack for that cylinder.

Subaru EJ20 running rough after replacing snapped timing belt

I would suspect a bent valve or two when the belt snapped. Verify the belt installation is correct and the timing marks line up. Do a compression test. If a valve is bent, the head has to come off and the valve(s) replaced.

Changed the alternator and starter and the timing belt on a 1998 subaru forester and it still wont start ...

If the engine cranks but won't start, the starter and alternator would not be the problem.
Was the engine running before you changed the timing belt ?
Do you have spark to the plugs and fuel to the injectors ?
Do you have normal compression on all cylinders ?

Subaru FORESTER runs rough when it RAINS

When was last plug wire change? I'd start there. Plug wires and ignition parts are susceptible to moisture, I'd start with wires.

Engine timing for a 1998 subaru forester with a 2.5

Since ignition timing is taken care of by the ECU, I guess you are asking about cam timing.
There are several marks to be aligned and if you get them wrong, you may trash your engine so I am only going to suggest you buy a Haynes service manual that has numerous good pix that show you exactly how to avoid killing your engine. And, unless you have a good-size vice well-mounted, compressing the belt tensioner again is going to give you fits.
The Haynes number you need is 89100 but it is listed only as a manual for the Legacy which uses the same engine but there may be less info that is usable on your '98 forester for which Haynes does not make a specific manual.
The later book that I have, 89101, covers all models from 2000 to 2006.
