Took to auto zone diagnostic test saidECM has detected large leak in the EVAP
If you have a EVAP code and no broken hoses or vacum lines then to find the leak will be a daunting task. Best will be to get a Smoke test done. Smoke test is done by forcing smoke in the Gas tank and then wait for it to escape from the point it leaks out and fix that leak or replace the component.
Evap system has many parts , cannister, vent and purge valves ,fuel tank and cap, first is the fuel cap on and is the seal in good shape. You will need to inspect all vauum hoses that leave the cannister if all ok then get the valve and solenoid tested for stuck open

The check engine light would record an error code in the computer, you need to get that information in order to know what the next step is.

your problem is probably a vacuum hose that goes from the purge valve to the gas tank (crack or broken hose). There should be two of these check both. A broken vacuum line will make the purge valve make a clicking noise that can be mistaken for noisy engine valves.

If it is missing or not running perfectly you can damage the Oxygen sensors or the catalytic converter. If it is running perfectly then more than likely no damage will be done, but you still need to have it looked at by a professional with the proper tools and skill to diagnosis the problem and not just throw parts at it. The PCM and catalytic converter are covered by an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty whichever comes first. To know if your defect is covered which is highly unlikely, you need to talk to your local GM dealer.
