96 Miata - 80a fuse is now welded into the holder & car won't start.

96 Miata was on trickle charger during winter so wanted to start several times (on/off) so oil would get to upper end & not starting dry. I started then off then on again & heard a loud bang like gun or backfire. 3 battery cell covers were blown out & acid sprayed around trunk. The 80a fuse is now welded into the holder & car won't start. Funny that the fuse link is not open. Tried pulling fuse with pliers but just breaking plastic of fuse which won't even wiggle. How do you get the fuse out & what is next thing to check? Thanks. PEL

SOURCE: Mazda Miata 2001 car problem

Batteries can have a dead cell in them, meaning there is sufficient charge to run accessories and the "check glass" may look fine (dark green in color on maintenance free batteries), but one dead cell in the battery indicates replacement time.

SOURCE: '05 mazda 6 will not start with new battery

I have an 06 Mazda 6 that has had starter problems since new. On servicing I have told them of the problem but it never happens when they have it, this has been ongoing for 3 years since new. They told me the battery was weak but I insisted that it's happened since new so why would that be the problem unless I've had a weak battery for 3 years. Then on my last service they couldnt' start it so replaced the starter motor under warranty. The car started fine for a few weeks but now is not starting again. I have also found that this generally only occurs in hot weather or when I have re-started the car numerous times in a short period of time.
Not really a solution but FYI for other Mazda 6 owners.

Where is the starter fuse and relay on 1990 Mazda Miata?

I think they're both in the same box as the main 80A fuse. I replaced my main fuse a while ago and while doing it caused a brief short, spark flew. But I got lucky because after replacing it everything worked.
Get a Haynes service manual, it will help.

Miata fuse box - 80a now welded into the fuse block - HELP!

Pel, the 80 amp main is bolted into the fuse block. Disconnect battery, metric 10 socket removes the block by the 2 bolts on the engine side, same size bolts on both side of the block, remove them both have ring connectors, be sure to reconnect them when putting back together. I did this same thing last monday during a hail and rain storm.

10 amp draw draining battery overnight on 99 tahoe

I have done this before, put about a 10 amp charger on the battery. Pull the courtesy light fuse first. Look at the battery charger, it is probably charging several amps, pull one fuse at a time. When the charging amps drops down you found the fuse the controls the problem. I had a car several years ago that someone pulled the seat belt all the way out, somehow it was pulling a load and draining the battery overnight.

My 2000 Yamaha golf cart has 6-4cell 8 volt batteries. I did not leave the cart plugged in during the winter months. When I attempted to charge yesterday, the charger lights sequenced but stayed on...

Yes to both questions. the charger must sense 41.5 volts to activate the relay inside the charger. Being a repair shop, I have a charger that is rigged to charge even DEAD batteries. I do not recommend this for the novice. A charger set on 12 volts will bring the batteries back up to 8.2-8.6 volts. A cheap trickle charger may not put out enough to charge a battery of this size. Remember that they are used to MAINTAIN a charge. Connect the Voltmeter and watch for voltage rise. If it rises to 8.1 or above, it is charging. Trojan battery company recommends charging at least once a month.

My car fails to start when its cold outside. I live in Chicago so the winters are horrible, but that shouldn't kill my battery ever winter. Should I take it in? Could there be a more serious problem?

Make sure to use 10W-30 oil at oil changes so that the starter doesn't have to work so hard to turn the engine when cold. Have Autozone or similar business check (for free) the operation of your alternator so that the battery is in peak shape. If your trips are fairly short, the alternator may not have sufficient time to restore the energy lost during the start procedure. You may need to augment the battery overnight with a small trickle charger every few days. Make sure the spark plugs and plug wiring are in good condition. Good luck!

Bmw 530i which is better choice maintain or take battery off??

Hello. Definitely use a trickle charger to keep your battery charged throughout the winter.
And in no particular order consider the following:
1. Oil and filter change
2. Full fuel tank - actually necessary.
3. Car up on jack stands
4. Car washed and waxed, perhaps covered
5. Intake and exhaust covered with strong mesh screen to prevent rodent infestation (optional, depending on where the car will be stored; mandatory if stored outside)
6. Clean interior and remove anything that could decay (and stink!)
7. install trickle charger to keep car's battery and electronix fully powered
8. Deflate tires to 15 lbs pressure
9. Roll all windows down 1/2 inch to allow for ventilation (optional if storing outside and/or covering car)

Monthly: Start engine and allow to fast idle (1000-2000 rpm) for several minutes. Engage AC to circulate refrigerant oil and keep seals fresh

Battery and cold storage of car for several months

a good battery will hold a charge through the winter if disconected from the vehicle adn left fully charged.
you may want to look into a battery monitoring charger, it is a trickle charger that is designed for long term use, it monitors battery volts and turns on when needed.

also put carpet squares or cardboard under the tires if you are parking on concreet. this will help prevent dry rot and flat spots
