A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) is usually located on the butterfly spindle so that it can directly monitor the position of the throttle valve butterfly.
Throttle actuator control(TAC), that code comes from that part of the system too.

Trying to purchase used mercury mountaineer but shows a code of P2135what does that mean and is it expensive to fix? please advise

You may want to check with the dealer or do some internet research on the code - - the generic code means there is a problem with the throttle position switch circuit. It could be different for a Mercury product.

Code p2135

Welcome to Fixya

The code you give is for a throttle position sensor (TPS), and its voltage is incorrect. This can be a loose connection at the sensor or a the sensor needs cleaning. Clean the throttle body by spraying cleaner on a rag and wipping down, even a little bit of dirt will affect your performance. Due to the construction of this style of throttle body it is highly recomended to not spray with cleaner, just wipe down.

Tps

Your truck has an electronically controlled throttle system. There are (2) TPS sensors located on the accelerator pedal.
Both of the sensors must agree, by way of a voltage signal, to the current position of the throttle. If (1) of the sensors sends a different voltage signal back to the PCM than the other, the PCM will set this fault.
The reason for the (2) sensors is redundancy. In the event a sensor fails, the other will allow the engine to run and not leave you stranded.
A scan tool will be able to determine which sensor is out of sync and then can be replaced.
I hope this satisfies your question. Let me know.
