I wouldn't recommend synthetic oil for a car that appears to have a small leak. Synthetic oil is very thin and will find that smallest of leaks and leave you adding oil all the time. Considering the length of your commute, I'd go with a heavier oil (10W40) or heavier and change the oil every 3000 miles. If the heavier oil doesn't solve your problem, you will need to identify the leak and get it repaired.

If it's not going onto the ground, and it's not being burned, check the positive crankcase ventilation and the exhaust gas recirculation valves for oil seepage...also check your air filter, if its got oil on it replace the pcv valve.

How Much Oil Goes Into A 2000 Honda civic ex?

Should be 4.5 Qts with a filter change. Check your owners manual to be sure, or put in 4 qts, start the engine, let run for 2 minutes, shut off, let set for 15 minutes, and check the level.

I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee and it just recently started making oil. I started running it about 3 weeks ago after it had been standing for most of the past 6-9 months. I dropped the oil (about 13 qts),...

The only liquid that can be getting into the crankcase and mixing with the oil is engine coolant. This is caused by a bad head gasket. Driving the truck as it is will cause serious engine damage. Have it looked at by a professional mechanic before driving it again.

Bought the envoy w/ 70,000 miles, fresh oil change. @ 74,000 miles it was 1.5 qrts low, put in 5w30, checked oil 2 weeks later it was 1 qrt low. do not see smoke or any leaking.

I just bought a 2005 envoy too. I read in the manual that the 4.6 6 cyl engine needs 7 qts total. 2 Over the normal oil change. Is it possible it wasn't low to start? I noticed when Walmart changed the oil they charged extra for the change because it needed the two extra qts. However my dip stick has oil over the full mark. Seemed strange but I haven't had any leaks and after 3k mile no change in level. Make sure you had the correct about the first time.

Recently the Maintenance Required light comes on and blinks for a couple of minutes, then goes off. We put new brakes on the front and we changed the oil and I thought the light would stop, but it's still...

the car is telling you that the oil needs to be changed/ the milage has reached the limit for needing to be changed. even if you have changed the oil it will still warn you after 7500 miles to change the oil. To make the light go off, press and hold the knob the resets your milage for 15 secs then turn the key to the on position(dont start the car) then continue to hold the knob in for about 30 secs, release, turn the car off, wait 5 secs, turn car to on position, then back off the start the car it should clear the maintence light.

Start the engine so the oil will get into the oil filter first the shut off and let stand for 5 minutes and check the dip stick once again
You did change the oil filter too for 5 quarts is used with a new oil filter
