check for hot fuel lines causing a vapour lock situation. move any lines away from heat sources or insulate with fibre glass cloth
if it is a carby unit , the problem can sometimes be overcome by placing a fuel filter in the line just next to the carby
gas or diesel ? if its gas find shrader valve (tire valve looking thing) on injector fuel manafold top of engine tap key on/off several times depress center of valve with plastic point nothing metal (old ink pen?) look for fuel to briefly spray out a bit (shield eye's) no fuel ck fuel pump , filter and inertia switch ,yes fuel ck all the sensors the injectors are not firing
Diesel ? A 86 would be A IdI type so loosen fuel fitting(one turn) to top of # 4 injector (you can't reach others) Do not remove it (High pressure!!!) crank engine several times over look for fuel leak at fitting thats loose ,it might even start if injector pump was airlocked that happens alot from sitting ,if it does don't get your body near loose fitting(high pressure) too dangerous shut off key and tighten fitting then restart engine
its possible but it usually takes quite a bump or jar to set that off. it helps to remember that a vehicle need 3 things to start spark fuel air spark is easy to see if your getting. have an assistant watch remove one spark plug wire from the plug and lay the wire next to a metal nut or bolt on the engine then crank the engine, the assistant should see a bright spark coming from the wire
fuel is easy but it takes the correct tool. buy or rent a fuel pressure tester. attach it to the fuel rail (where your fuel injectors are attached to) and check the pressure with the car on and the car off but the key on run (your local auto parts store can help you with finding the standard fuel pressure)
air is very easy, check your air filter. though I have never seen an air filter so dirty a vehicle wouldnt start,
finally if all those check out. either take it to a shop or check the timing belt yourself. if your timing belt goes your vehicle would stop immediately and it wont restart till its replaced
ck fuel pressure with fuel pressure gauge at fuel rail,,there should be a black cap on fuel line or rail on top of motor,,or u mite have a spark issue ck that to,,coil,,modular, hoped it helped,,
Sounds like it is fuel related. Ck fuel pressure to be sure. Also ck the pressure regulator on the fuel rail, It is a small metal cylinder at the end of the fuel rail to ck pull to vacumn line off (hot not running after shutting the engine off). If there is fuel in the vacumn line it is bad. Good luck
