SOURCE: Need to remove ignition switch on 1998 chevrolet malibu-How?

Hello rsscott50

I hope you have this thing fixed but if not you can try this.
First I need to assume the "lock cylinder" will turn with the correct key installed.?

You must turn the lock cyl to the run position. I suggest disconnecting the battery first.

I pull the radio out to gain access to the ign. switch.

If you have a small mirror it will really help to find a small square hole in the top of the "plastic" part, "the ign. switch".

If replacing only the lock cylinder you will NOT need to take the 2 screws out holding the plastic piece to the dash.

You will need a tool of sorts so once to locate the small hole on the top of the ign switch and also have the lock cyl rotated to the run position, you press the tool into the small hole.
Tool--can be about the size of a medium screw driver--but the end will have a bend, a right angle bend and the bent piece approx. 3/8" in length.

You will be pressing down on a button help there by a weak spring, look on the new lock cylinder.

As you press down or inward pullout on the lock cyl.
It's that easy.

After installing the new lock cylinder, if that is what your are doing, you might not be able to start the car.
Most chevys have a chip built into the lock cyl. with a sort of password--if the car doesn't see the right password it wont start.

Question: if you need further instruction please let me know.
If the Lock cylinder does not turn, then the fix has another & different approach but you can do it.

Good Luck,
Dave

If you have a wheel puller(steering wheel) then the rest is easy. If you don't it's best to grab a repair manual because there are certain little tricks that should be known before attemting to do this.

A common problem is the ignition cylinder and/or the ignition switch. With the buzzing of the relay, i would say all this may be related to the ignition switch. A low voltage supply to any of the circuits that the switch feeds will give strange electrical conditions. If going to replace the ignition switch, then also do the cylinder at the same time. With all things described, sure sounds like the ignition switch. P.S. The locks may be related to the ignition switch problem or not at all. With that said, would suggest looking at the BCM(body control module)It control locks, and also has alot to do with the security system. See picture at bottom of this page of corroded BCM connectors. 4- Passlock Ignition lock
cylinder removed.
Install new cylinder.Try to start- it wont or dies.Leave key on for 10-12 minutes, or until light goes out. Then turn off key for 10 seconds.Turn key to 'on' position for 5 seconds, then turn to start

Keyless entry stopped working on 2002 suburban; all locks/windows work when pressed but no keyless entry; batteries have been replaced on both remotes

I have a few ideas for you:

1) I know this sounds crazy, but try disconnecting the vehicle battery (both terminals) for at least 10 minutes, then reconnect them and try the remote again.

2) Replace the batteries in the key fob.

3) Take the circuit board out, wipe it down, and try again. Here is a video showing this process: How To Clean Your Key Fob Circuit Board

4) Reprogram the remote using these procedures:
1. Close all vehicle doors. 2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver?s door panel-continue to hold
down until instructed to release in step 9.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the
engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock
the doors automatically.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until
the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing
transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming
mode.
5) Order a new remote from us online at https://www.keylessentryremotefob.com/Chevrolet-Suburban-Remotes-and-Keys-s/3679.htm

1991 S10 Ignition Lock Cylinder will not turn with key. Had new key made. Still, the ignition switch will not turn. It is on a 1991 Chevy S-10.

Hi,
This may or may not help. Is key hanging up in cylinder? If so, spray some wd 40 or graphite into the switch. Also, if steering wheel is turned fully in either direction, then your steering wheel lock may be preventing you from truning key. Try shaking the wheel while turning the key. Lastly your ignition switch may be shot.

Ignition will turn when key is inserted 1996 Chevy S10

Maybe the steering wheel lock causing this problem, try rocking the wheel left to right and back the other way, if that doesn't work the lock cylinder is defective and must be replaced.
