What does a bad distributor cause a 1987 caprice to do

Or what ail it do to the motor. Is the distributor hard to fix

Bring cylinder one up to top dead center..Make sure on the distributor cap rotor is pointed at number one..The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.Hope this helps you,,Have a great night...

Hey man the best thing i can think of would be to go and pickup the Repair Manual for your car it should have good info on the vacum setup.

CHECK FOR POWER TO THE IGNITION COIL; THEN TAKE OUT ONE PLUG, RECONNECT TO ITS WIRE AND WHILE IT IS LAYING ON THE MOTOR, ACTIVATE THE STARTING WHILE LOOKING FOR A SPARK ON THE PLUG.NO SPARK NO POWER. OPEN UP THE DISTRIBUTOR AND SEE IF YOU HAVE THE CORRECT GAP ON THE POINTS.

87 chevy hesitates only when in gear ???

The hard shifting is the result of your engine problem. Not sure whant kind of carbureter you have or wheather you have a distributor vacuum advance or not. It really sounds as though you have a base igntion timing probem. The distributor vacuum advance should be connected to manifold vacuum. Im assuming also that this is not a factory stock engine.

What would cause an lt1 motor to sputter and pop when you give it gas

if this has the motor i`m thinking you could have a fuel pressure problem that needs to be checked with a gage.these motors are known for bad distributors units,cracked caps,rotors burning through,wires going bad,internal distributor problems.

1987 ford ranger no spark

You may want to check your distributor cap for any signs of unusual wear such as a crack. Even a hair line crack (that is very hard to see) can cause you lose spark. You may want to go ahead and replace both the distributor cap and rotor (a cheap fix) and see whether or not that helps.

1987 caprice suddenly stalled and wont start again. Been having an issue with an oil leak, but it is a know problem and we check the oil daily. could the oil pressure switch/sender be an issue?

not for a 87. did you check the ignition module in the distributor?

Firing order

Auto Zone has the manual for this on line. Note that if you have a V8, the distributor shaft may rotate either clockwise or counter clockwise, depending on whether Chevy or Olds made the engine. So, with the cap off, turn your engine over to see which way the shaft rotates.
