We were stuck in mud after help arrived we drove for about thirty to fourty five minutes then suddenly the car just stopped whilest in four wheel drive it wont move bt it can start.
You cannot disengage from 4x4 on the Prado kdj120/lc2-lc5 2002/2009 because its fixed 4x4 with Torsen.
Meaning it drives all fours on any surface.
Now if you was on low Transfer gear and it wont disengage to high gear, turn engine off, put gears in neutral by depressing clutch,if automatic use gear selector switch, start again and in neutral try and move
low gear tranfer to high.
If it was in locked centre differential, press switch again to unlock, put in reverse and slowly acelerate until you hear a slight clonck, that means it has disengaged.
If all this does not work, tow truck, on top, cannot be towed like a front or rear wheel vehicle.
Never drive on hard tarmac with the centre differential
locked, if so you wont like the repair bill.Only use on mud, soft earth-ground, sand.
At best as I know the 2005 Prado is all time 4WD vehicle.
Is the engine running ? Can you shift the gears ?
May be something is broken in the drive train...
As a suggestion you can go home by locking the centre differential, proceeding at low speed and checking for noises .
Pls. let me know if it helps...
Never drive " A Toyota Landcruiser/Prado Kdj120/lc2-lc5" with a locked centre differential on hard bitumen/Road!.You will not like the repair bill, this should be used only in soft mud, earth or sand.
You can drive it on tarmac with low gear/Transfer case in an emergency only for a very short distance or Example: Parking Caravan, boating a boat etc.
Prefebly call a tow truck, should be towed all four wheels off the ground.Remember its 4x4 with Torsen.

SOURCE: I broke the front wheel drive on my 84 corolla.
So the toyota starts, u can shift thru the gears, but the car doesn't move? If that's the case, you probably broke a cv joint/axle when u went into the ditch. If the cv joint or axle breaks, the engine and drive train can't spin the front wheels.
SOURCE: steering wheel stuck and car wont turn on
Turn the steering wheel and the key at the same time.
Turn the wheel HARD, whilst turning the key to the "on" position.
SOURCE: car wont move in drive..
Your trans oil should be reddish in colour, and not smelling burned. It sounds like the level is very low, so drain out the trans oil, and refill it to the correct level with Dexron III or equivalent.
It is refilled down the dipstick tube with a narrow funnel or squeeze bottle, and the level must be finally checked with the engine idling.

Hi Johny, Sometimes these vehicles suffer from diff wind up, and that's my own terminology. After driving in the 4 X 4 mode and deselecting back to 2 X 4 it's sometimes required to select reverse and 1st driving the vehicle backwards and forwards. Take care doing this for obvious reasons. The Range selector shift should become free after a few attempts. If the shift is electro mechanical, you may need to have a a diagnostic scan carried out and any problem rectified. Regards John
