After driving less than 10 miles on the bypass, our car sounded like the exhaust was rattling and slightly dragging on ground. We looked under car and saw nothing. While driving or idling it make loud sputtering, clanking sounds to the cars rough unstable idle. It sounds like an exhaust with a huge hole in it. We searched car the next day at home and could not find any leak or loose pipe. The noise is coming from under the drivers side in the front/middle of car. We thought it might be the catalytic converter because 8 months ago it was completely clogged. The car overheated very quickly and had no power. We took it to a muffler shop and they cleared it out by inserting a pipe through it. It has been working just fine. Could it be from a sensor or canister in the exhaust pipe? Please help??
If its a front wheel drive it could be the rear transmission mount. they are in the front of the car, or if its a rear wheel drive it could be the front universal joint of the driveshaft.
Testimonial: "It turned out to be a spun bearing. No longer have the Cadillac."
I know what u-joints sound like and this is 10x louder and like clank, clank and a higher pitched tinc, tinc sound to the rumbling of the engine as it idled roughly and missing. I just cant find exactly where it is coming from. If the car was raised on a lift, it might be easier to search. We dont even have a floor jack. Just the tire jack that came with the Cadillac.
If you are near San Antonio Driveshaft Unlimited will check out any drive train problems. might get lucky and see whats the problem.

Its an 1987 Cadillac deville 4.1L 8cyl. frontwheel drive.
maybe the pipe in the converter came loose? or a loose heat shield?
your silencer , muffler has developed puncture, hole due to corrosion or otherwise or some packing joint has got loosened on the silence pipe

It turned out to be a spun bearing in the engine. The car has been sold. Very sad day for me.
