My chevy 2013 cruze has the ac lines disconnected from the condensor. with this said will the engine fan go on in this state? The engine starts and temp rises but i am checking to see if the fan will come on and it does not. Do i have to have the ac lines connected for this fan to operate?

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck

With the truck running at operating temperature, squeeze your upper radiator hose. You may have to check it a couple times allowing time for your thermostat to open. Are you able to compress the hose a little when you squeeze it or does it remain stiff/solid? Your thermostat may be stuck open or even stuck closed.
SOURCE: I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
I had this problem with a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. I changed the coolant sensor and even though the check engine light went out I still had a reading of "---" on the coolant gauge. The problem is most likely one of three things: a low coolant level, a bad coolant sensor, or the thermostat needs to be replaced. The only other possible thing it could be is a bad BCM (Body Control Module) which in that case you would most likely be having other weird problems.
The Thermostat and the sensor are both very easy to get to and replace. Take off the engine cover by removing the oil cap and they are both to the rear of the engine on the driver's side. They are right next to each other.
Hope this helps!
