If this has the coil over the spark plug try replacing the coil. If it still has wires replace the cap, rotor and wires. Do a compression test and check for a mechanical problem like a burnt valve.

SOURCE: Volvo 850 1996 4 door sedan Speedometer not working

Mark,

As long as you have the instructions to replace the speeometer drive gear go ahead, and do it.

One BIG question I have for you....how do you know that the mileage is not way over what you've been told?...

small tip for the future.......if you ever look at another car for anybody, and the speedometer doesn't work...pass up the car..there is always another one down the road waiting for you.

Hopefully this will help you, and thanks for letting us at FixYa.com help out...happy New Year

SOURCE: Read a PO410 code,1996 850 GLT volvo, secondary

The most common cause is either a bad air pump (under your battery tray) and/or a bad SAS check valve which is connected in to your exhaust next to the firewall in the engine compartment.  It could also be a bad relay for the motor.  Less common, but possible, other bad components are the vacuum solenoid that controls the SAS valve, which is located by the radiator or a broken/leaking vacuum line to or from the solenoid.

You can test the motor by jumping the relay or applying 12v straight to it.  If the motor runs it most likely is not the problem.  If not, it's likely that there is water in it and you should replace both the motor and SAS valve.  The SAS valve is a pain to get unbolted, at least on turbo cars.  You can check the solenoid by just making sure there is vacuum going to the SAS valve a few seconds after starting up the car cold, and checking the lines for any obvious wear in the rubber elbows or breaks in the plastic line.

SOURCE: need the radio code for 1996 volvo 850.

Yes. Call a dealer.  If they tell you that you have to come in person or want to charge you then call another.  Even search for dealers over the internet.  Most will give it to you over the phone, a smaller portion will want to either charge or make you come in person.  Again, if that happens just call another dealer.  If the radio is original, you can just give them the VIN.  If you suspect it isn't or if the code they give you doesn't work then you need to pull the radio and gave them the serial number on it.

SOURCE: volvo 850 won't start occasionally

Hey Kolby!

Sounds like you've got an issue with your alarm module, causing the immobilizer to activate (also known as a "start inhibitor"). I'm not sure what type of alarm you've got, but this will probably help you find out if there is something wrong with it:

There is a panel with relays on it behind the dash. At the bottom of the steering column, by the drivers feet, there is a panel. Remove it to get access to the relay panel (just a couple of torx screws, no breakable clips as far as I can remember). Remove the "double size" relay (probably marked 210-211). Put a wire between the terminals 50E and 50F. This will hotwire the immobilizer and make sure that it always activates when turning the key.

Drive around with the wire in place instead of the relay for a while to see if this helps. If it does you'll know that the problem is related to the alarm system. Keep in mind that you will be without alarm and therefore probably also without remote central locking while doing this.
Make sure that the wire is connected firmly enough so it doesn't come loose. You can also put a fuse on it if it makes you sleep better at night ;)

Good luck!

Code po133 o2 sensor 96 volvo 850 wagon

Front oxygen sensor code. Check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and make sure it is ok before you replace the sensor. Any vacuum leak can also cause the code.

P0304 misfire 4

There are so many things that can cause a missfire.
Just a thought. IF you switch both the plug and coil with a different cylinder it should show the missfire on that cylinder. You might want to check the compression on cylinder number 4.

You may also want to check the continuity of the conectin to the number 4 coil pack.

Check the plugs that were replaced. They may have been cheap plugs. If number four plug is fouled you may have ring problems.

Hope this helps

(1996 Volvo 850)How do I do a transmission flush?

yes, you need a transmission flush machine. it is the only way to get 100% fluid exchange. i would strongly recommend having this professionally done, as a transmission is a very expensive experiment.

How do i reset the radio code in a volvo 850 glt sedan 1996

go to your local volvo dealership, and you must have the car in your name, but ask one of the mechanics if you can have the code for your radio, they'll look it up and give it to you I believe.

How can I get the code for the radio of a volovo 850?

The first step is to try and remove the radio to see if the code has been written on the casing. This is sometimes done with Volvo.

You will also need to provide the model number printed on the front of your stereo as Volvo branded units are often Clarion or another major brand that has been re-branded Volvo.
