the service manual cover this fully (buy one/)
it mostly never fails unless the compressor explodes inside.
why not just post a problem first.?
and we diagnosis it using real tools.?
do not overfill the system or it will shut down./ ok? as vast do.
the device you seek is called and expansion valve.
not a tube with orifice inside, (relics)?
it is self variable.
Have you checked your system pressure? Are you sure that it is kicking out for high pressure? and not low pressure and just need a bit of charge? If it is kicking out on the high side for a clogged expansion valve you have to remember that an A/C system is a sealed system, if there is debris inside of the system and has clogged the expansion valve that there is only once place for it to come from and I would expect to be changing the compressor soon.
{: ) You can find the rear expansion valve at the bottom of the auxiliary hvac module, mounted at level with the floor. The auxilliary hvac is just behind the rear right fender, concealed from the inside by the rear right quartertrim panel. But you can access the expansion valve from underneath the vehicle. A little behind the rear right wheel, look through from below , follow the path of the a/c pipes ending upwards in a rectangular juction. Just be careful with nearby hot surfaces and falling dust. Protect your eyes.
We had this problem on a 2004 Freestar, and the expansion valve was plugged next to the rear evaporator. The expansion valve allows the freon to flow through the evaporator and cool it. I replaced it and it works good.
yes there are two expansion valves.. front one is either on firewall, engine side or inside the heater plenum which usually requires removing the dash... big job
