Idles ok but as soon as you give it gas it dies out

have a budy turn the key on but do not try to start you take the gass cap off and lission to see if you hear a whine or buzz for bout 2 sec try turing the key on and a few times if you hear a buzz then the fuel pump is probabley workinf if not then check fuse and relay first also check timing belt

It's actually super easy.
All you need is your year and make alternator belt and a wrench.
Take off the existing altenator, take off the old belt.
Once the altenator is off you'll be able to look further down below where the altenator was. You'll see a metal wheel that's a little bigger than the one on the altenator. This is where the new belt needs to wrap around.
I found it alot easier to wrap the belts around the two wheels before putting the altenator back on the engine.
Make sure that all bolts and seals are sound. (that's the last thing you need falling off in the middle of nowhere!)

timing belt would be my guess. have had that happen to me on 2 different geo's. Not a real hard item to replace, and the price of the belt and new seal is around $25.00, But labor can run a couple hudred.

try holding a lit match near the gas tank to see if the gas is good. if it explodes bad gas was not your problem

Your catalytic convertor is stopped up, common problem on Geo's! Will burn an exhaust valve if you keep driving it!
