Also might be the starter solenoid.
Ford/Lincoln/Mercury need full voltage to start, or turn over.
Just because your radio plays and your interior light work doesn't mean the battery is 100%
Try this: turn your headlights on, have someone turn the key to start, if the lights stay bright, it's a connection to the starter issue, (solenoid, cable, dragging starter) if the lights go dim, or flicker with the clicking, it's a dead, or half dead/dying battery.(USUALLY)
First, make sure your battery is fully charged.
Start with easy connections, battery terminals take them off, wire brush them, replace them if they are weak.
Starter solenoid is common culprit, do the same thing here.
At the starter, same thing, remove them and clean them.
After you make sure everything is good, battery, cables etc are good, and it's still clicking...change the solenoid.
Also, when you get it going, use a meter or load tester to check the charging system is working properly and the starter is drawing the right current.
Check for loose battery cables.
