2000 grand am gt. Check engine light is off but the Service engine soon light is on. There are no error codes. I have already changed the oil and reset the oil light.

Service engine soon ? Do you mean SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Indicator
The amber SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator is an alert to the driver whenever there are specific current codes stored in the BCM or in the event of a loss of Class 2 serial data.

If your vehicle has a check engine light ,it doesn't have service engine soon .One or the other .

Service engine soon

Hi there:
When the light comes on, one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are stored in the engine control module. These DTCs remain even if the light goes out. To address a Check Engine Light problem, the DTCs are retrieved and the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed in order to determine the problem.

The Four Most Common Check Engine Light Scenarios and What to Do:
* The Check Engine Light turns on and off or flickers.
If the Check Engine Light comes on in the city but goes off on the freeway, then the fault is present during city driving conditions. Pay attention to whether or not the vehicle runs or drives any differently when the Check Engine Light illuminates. If vehicle performance does change, drive the car as little as possible and take it to be checked by a service professional as soon as possible. If there is no change in vehicle performance, you can drive home, but have it inspected as soon as possible. In this condition, you run a risk of the vehicle dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light comes on and stays on.
If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light illuminates, stays on, and there are performance problems.
This means that a vital component of your emission control and engine management system has a serious problem. It usually involves a component or system needed for the vehicle to run at all. In most cases, drive the vehicle as little as possible. In many cases, the vehicle is not safe to drive at all -it could stop or stall out at any moment. It is best to pull over to a safe place and have the vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for a thorough inspection and repair.

* The Check Engine Light light comes on and blinks in a steady pattern while driving.
Don't confuse this steady pulsing of the Check Engine Light light (usually one or more flashes per second) with a flicker (see above). The Check Engine Light may stay on steadily or it may flash when the vehicle is accelerated. This is very serious. There is a severe failure of the emission control system that is causing the engine to misfire to the point that the catalytic converter is damaged each time the Check Engine Light flashes. It may mean that the catalytic converter is overheating to the point that it will glow red or, in extreme cases, start a fire on the underside of the vehicle. Immediately pull over to a safe place and have your vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for repair. Vehicles can be severely damaged and even destroyed by fire if this condition is ignored for too long.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

My Service Engine Soon light lit up on my 2004 Buick Century. Typically, I've had it come on if I didn't tighten the gas cap all the way. Usually, if that is the case, it turns off after starting and...

Do you have a "Check engine" light or a "Service engine soon" light.Could be you are just being reminded to get an oil change as the "Service engine soon" light will come on automatically at a certain mileage after it was last reset.Your vehicle handbook in the glove compartment should tell you how to reset your "Service engine soon light" yourself. If you have a "Check engine" light on,you can have someone read your "codes" and find out what system the vehicle is having a problem with.

2002 pontiac grand am has 2 service engine soon lights the one on the right comes on and goes out periodiclly

Usually one is a service vehicle soon and the other service engine soon. They are different. The service vehicle soon is telling you the body has an electrical issue and the service engine is telling you you have a powertrain issue. If you get the codes pulled from the engine at auto zone or another big box part store for free and post the codes we can help. This we do first. Then we can worry about the service vehicle soon.

"Service Engine Soon" anounces the need of service of your car normally. Please, check your Owner´s Manual and verify the last time you sent the car to service and when, the next is coming according the manufacturer. Service shop will reset the ligth once the service is executed.

My windows and ac dont work in my 2000 pontiac grand am and my service vehicle soon light comes on as well (indicating an electrical problem) i dont know if it is a relay or a short somewhere and dont know...

service vehicle soon light on ? Does not indicate a electrical problem. Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's Has to do with OBD2 engine management system .
Window's an A/C not working are two other separate problems . Looking at wiring diagrams an testing the electrical circuit's for the windows and A/C is how to find the problem . Your best bet mite be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. What does it mean when the anti brake light, service engine soon, and traction off light comes on at the same time?

I am assuming its not the service engine soon light it is probably the service vehicle soon light, There are 2 lights service vehicle soon upper left side, and service engine soon upper right side.

When all these come on at the same time it is the wheel bearing sensor. Usually the wheel bearing needs to be replaced which houses the sensor. A sure way to check is to press your sls button by your shifter and see if the light goes out, If it does not, u will need to have a wheel bearing put in.

When I start my 2001 alero the anti-lock, traction light, service engine soon, service vehicle soon lights all stay on all the time. But my car seems to be running fine. Why is this?

the anti-lock and traction lights will come on together if there is a common problem with the two, since they are closely related. may be a wheel speed sensor or something similar. the service engine soon light indicates a problem with the engine computer, can be anything from an emission system problem or an engine performance problem. all of these lights can come on with no apparent running problems on the car. the service vehicle soon light is basically a maintenance reminder, an oil change light. take the car into a shop and have the codes read for these lights.
