Belt jumping the pulley ribs?

Check for worn out crankshaft damper pulley

The big one on the bottom

Only reason a belt moves, is an alignment issue
Something wore or changed since the vehicle was made

If you changed an idler pulley because of a bad bearing & noise,
that may have been one problem

Any snapping or jumping, is loss of spring tension in the tensioner
pulley assy. Those are the ones that wear & I thought you were referring to

The diagram to install the belt is under the hood near the engine emissions sticker, if not there near the belt.

SOURCE: change serpentine belt and tension pulley and idle pulley and

could be the alternator, water pump
take the belt and spin all the pulleys and listen for noise and make sure they turn smoothly
another trick is to take a can of wd40 or equivalent and spray the bearings 1 at a time till the noise goes away or quiets down

What makes a Saturn vue 2004 go into limp mode

hi, one possible reason is a noisy bearing (s) in your belt drive tensioner. This can upset the crank position sensor by the front pulley.
Lift the bonnet with the engine running and listen for squealing noises coming from the front of the engine.

It sounds to me like your battery is down? Make sure the battery has a full charge. Take the serpentine belt off and see if it cranks any better. Make sure none of the accessory pulleys are frozen.

Make sure the belt is on all the grooves of all the pulleys, its not in all of its proper tracks, or belt may have been installed too tight!

I have to replace serpentine belt

Generally you make sure you have a diagram of how the belt is routed around the pulleys, then move the spring loaded tensioner pulley away from the belt to remove it.

How to change the serpentine belt

Draw picture of belt routing. (Makes assembly easier) You need a long wrench (can be purchased or rented from local auto parts store) Then use the wrench on the tensioner pulley, which will swivel to relieve tension on the belt, then remove belt.

My 2003 saturn vue makes squealing sound at the steering even at a slight turn

Sounds like your serpentine belt. I would check the condition of your belt on the engine. It is possible that you could also have power steering pump issues. Check belt condition first, Second if the belt is not glazed and looks ok remove the belt and check movement on power steering pump pulley to see what what type of resistence is presen while turning pulley. If so, pump should be replaced. This could be causing belt to slip and make the squeeling that you are hearing. If no resistence on pump replace belt and varify repair. Good luck.....
