Why won't my 2001 Chevy Cavalier start?

Drove fine the night before but wouldn't start the next morning. It will turn over but just won't fire. Anti-theft and check engine lights flash while cranking but no other dash lights stay on after trying. Fuel Pump or Passlock?

The anti-theft doesn't stay on but I tried all the key on for ten minuted off for 5 seconds back on for 10 tricks. Did smell gas in the cabin while driving very briefly the previous evening. But it did start and drive for a short trip in between.

To replace the fuel sending unit your looking at $400-$500 in shop. And yes the tank would have to be dropped

SOURCE: the theft system is set on my 1997 chevy cavalier help

If it is a pass lock system just turn the key to the on position, but do not start the engine and wait 10 minutes until the light stops flashing. Then turn it off and restart it. It should go away. If the light is not flashing in the first place then I don't know.

SOURCE: 99 chevy cavalier theft system light on steady, car wont crank.

My 2000 cavalier has done this for 6 months. You take your key out then open your door, wait ten minutes and the system resets itself and the car will start-annoying you bet!!!

SOURCE: 98 chevy cavalier cranks but wont start changed

try to start the car, than the anti theift would shut the car off. you wait ten min with the key on, until you see the anti theift flash or disapear. than turn key to off position and try to start it. this will reprogram the computer.. Good luck.

you can also try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes

SOURCE: I need to disarm my

http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/ Go to that link. You are exactly right. The engine swap has confused the anti theft security system. It can disable the starter and/or the injectors/fuel. There are ways to bypass these systems. You can do it yourself too. Ive personally done dozens of these bypasses, and they work great. Good luck

1998 chevy Monte Carlo z34 3.8L My car turns over but won't start up, been having a anti freeze leak problem I think coming from water pump or intake manifold. The other night I drove without warming...

You would need to cover the basics first - does it have spark to the plugs and normal fuel pressure at the injectors ?
Low fuel pressure could cause the code, as well as a vac leak.
There could be a problem with the coolant temp sensor telling the computer the temp is warmer than it really is.
Can you spray carb cleaner into the throttle body and make the engine want to start ?

Chevy 2001 Cavalier won't start

Trace the power source from fuse to relay etc and make sure pump is working. if all checks out then check pump working and for preasue at engine. you may have a dammaged fuel line from the tank which would also cause the same problem

We drove in parked it then the next morning it just wouldn't start. It turns over and thats it

First check for spark and good fuel pressure if these are good then the ignition switch is the culprit.

Engine turns over but will not fire

Probably a bad fuel pump. Known to fail from one turn of the key to the next.
