I have a 2000 malibu. i get a po440 and a po440 pd code when i hook up the obd code reader. ??? and it surges when holding gas pedal steady.
Evap emission control system malfunction, po440
evap emission control system malfunction.
the surge could be a egr valve carbon build up..
evap emission control system malfunction--po440, never heard of po 440pd, surge in vehicle might be the tps.
emission control malfunction. check to make sure air cleaner is ok, take off maf sensor and clean it. you can by maf sensor cleaner at any auto parts store. follow directions carefully on can. my 3.1 did this and it made a big differance in the way it runs. this should eliminate the surging. if not check tps sensor is ok. this will cause surging also.
po440 is emission control system, could be a bad vacuum hose, check all hoses carefully. as for the surgeing I would make sure aircleaner is clean, go to any auto parts place and buy a can of maf sensor spray. follow the directions on can. clean manifold air flow sensor. if that does not help replace idle air control sensor. it is just after air cleaner in hose to throttle body. I had the same problem and now it is fine.
p0440 is an emission control system malfunction, to repair check all vacuum hoses for bad ones or leaks in hoses. for the surging part. go to any auto parts store, and buy a can of maff sensor spray follow directions on can and clean maff sensor, next make sure that air cleaner is clean. if above does not help much, replace intake air temperature sensor, it costs less than 20.00,

The p0440 code is an evaporative emissons control system malfunction you can go to your local auto zone and they can hook the scanner up for the codes and look up the part to solve your codes with an emissions code fault showing this is probably why it is surging
