SOURCE: lower intake manifold gasket leaking 02 Olds Silhouette

This is basicly a very time consuming job rather than a physically hard one to complete. In order to replace the gasket you must remove the intake plenum, throttle body, and misc. vacuum hoses. The wiring harness connections must also be disconnected. Finally the intake manifold is exposed. The bolts holding the manifold to the block are removed exposing the leaking gasket. After removing the push rods and placing them in the correct order to be replaced the gasket and sealants can be removed. Finally replace everything in reverse order. Be sure to consult a GM manual for correct bolt torch specs. The correct specs for the manifold bolts usually come with the gasket. Make sure to change your oil a few times after this job in case any coolant entered the block. Also, change the thermostat and the oil seal on the distributor half shaft cap while you have everything off. Good Luck

SOURCE: what are the lower intake manifold bolt torque

When torqueing bolts on manifolds or heads you always start in the middle or center and torque in a circle motion and olny torque 1 bolt at a time. Start with a low toque and increase torque up 5 to 10ft lbs / or newtons each time until torque spec is reached.

How do i access the thermostat?

Hi,

The thermostat is located in the forward most part of the intake manifold directly in the center. It is located in an in-closed housing with 2 studded bolts.

Simply follow the Large water pump hose on top of the intake manifold to it. You don't need to remove this housing,

just remove the 2 bolts and lift up the housing with the large hose attached to it.

The thermostat will be sitting in the recessed area of the hole in the intake manifold.

Good luck...

One bolt thermostat housing. How do I get the housing off?

remove the other bolt from the thermostat housing and remove the housing. My fear at this point would be that by removing intake manifold bolts and wiggling the manifold you may have damaged the intake manifold gasket set, which is a much more indepth repair
