Hit your starter with a hammer!! if that don't work, look for current at the starter with a test light and the ignition on. If there is current; tow it to a auto electric or dealer.
Could be battery or more likely it needs a new starter. The starter has nothing to do with care safety. Buy a new starter not rebuilt or junkyard started. Labor for new starter or maybe starter is the same. You might get lucky and rebuilt starter lasts but it doesn't the labor is paid again.

If the service engne soon light is flashing, it means you have a hard failure, that is occuring at that time. If the car is shaking, it sounds like some sort of misfire. If you continue to drive it, you risk permanent damage to the engine, and catalytic convertors.
