Question about 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

How do you disengage 4wd with a simple under the engine fix? Already had it done once before but nobody seems to know how to do it again

4wd drive is not disengaging at all. I had a shop do this for me before but they are closed now. Nobody seems to know how he did it. He just crawled under the front of the truck and was finished in less than a minute. My truck was out of 4wd until I needed it, and then he switched it back.

Probably manually moved the actuator lever to the neutral or 2 wd position

either there is a vacuum leak from the transfer switch to the front axle actuator on the inner fender well--down a cable into the front axle --most likely it got stuck and it's front axle is LOCKED in
? in 2 high is the front axle indicator light on then ---my solution is good ---if not ? did the indicator lights work in 4 hi / 4low ---when you put it back in 2 high the lights should all be off
if it's acting that way and the lights don't work ---I don't know right this minute to tell you --sorry

I despise GM --and Ford ---will no longer them ---nothing nada ever
I have a Blazer ---my opinion completely faulty from the factory --everything
97 Ford Taurus SHO yamaha aluminum racing 3.4V8---no dealer --27 straight is "not allowed by ford" to change the oil even ---But Lexus will I find that silly -but kudos to lexus --Thanx

The 4 wheel drive tends to lock in and wont dissengage unless you put it in reverse then drive then put the 4wd on reverse then forward again then disengage and reverse one more time. ------------ Try disconnecting the actuator at the front diff and see whether it disengages quickly. The actuator moves a shift fork and gear sleeve in the front diff, once the actuator turns off a return spring disengages the shift fork and gear sleeve to return the truck to 2WD. Possibly the spring is bad/broken or the shift fork/sleeve are getting hung up? It can be encoder motor on the transfer case. Try hitting the transfer case with hammer slightly. You can try taking a small hammer and tap on the motor and sometimes it will free it up. If not, it's most likely going to need replacement.---------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hi Jim,
this is rather common. The front axle diff will have a hard time disengaging if the gears are under load. You need a load change (get of the acc pedal, move steering a bit left right, briefly go to neutral on the auto transmission, then back to drive). This will help to get the front diff loose again. Sometimes it really takes some time to disengage! Mostly the problem is gone when you stop the car, switch off engine, release brake, then start again and drive - and voila- back to 2WD. On hard surfaces the transmission can go into a wind-up state (because of different wheel speed when cornering), esp the center diff (4WD and center diff locked) then is under such load that the car virtually stops driving or you can hear crackling noises and tyre slip on tarmac!

How do i disengae from four wheel drive

At best as I know the 2005 Prado is all time 4WD vehicle.
Is the engine running ? Can you shift the gears ?
May be something is broken in the drive train...
As a suggestion you can go home by locking the centre differential, proceeding at low speed and checking for noises .

4X4 ok on drive position but disengage in rear

Regarding 4 Wheel Drive problems,
Always follow Owners Manual for when and how to utilize 4 Wheel Drive. In most cases it should not be activated when vehicle is moving. Automatic Transmissions with 4 Wheel Drive have a Transfer Case similar to that used with Manual Transmissions. Shifting between LOW 4WD and HIGH 4WD should be selected while the vehicle is stopped. Again, follow Owners Manual Instructions. If you hear strange Grinding Noises have a Certified Technician check out your vehicle immediately.

Sorry that you are having troubles but, it sounds like the problem is more than a simple fix to me. If your Vehicle has Manual Locking Hubs make sure they are in the correct position for use in 4WD.

The orange light in the center (lock) keeps flashing while driving(the 4wd section on the dashboard) . I drive a mitsubishi pajero io,but at the carcategory I filled in some other model because the pajero...

Pajeros have a air operated solenoid to disengage/engage the front hubs and centre diff lock. the solenoids themselves can stick if aged. to replace them is about $200 each (two or more of them). I found thata bit of WD40/ CRC soaking inside the airhoses and solenoides and enagge/disengage action of the hubs frees it up again. Do this while stationery in neutral and motor running. The solenoids are located inside the engine bay just behind the drivers side headlight. They will have some black rubber air tubes in/out of them. When you engage/disengage you should hear a little whirring and slight clunk and the hub locks/unlocks. If very aged, you may need to move the car forward/backward for the hub locking mechanisim to find its opening. Once disengaged, the orange light should go out. The aftermarket workshop manual by Max Ellery fully describes this process and is about $30 ON eBAY.

My 2005 durango engages the 4 wheel drive by itself and wont disengage the service 4wd light comes on first what could the problem be please help

This issue has reared its ugly head more than once on the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Durangos. Sometimes a simple battery disconnect /reset can cure the issue.

Other times, the TCCM or Transfer Case Control Module was at fault and needed to be replaced.

If you are fortunate enough to be still under the 7/70 powertrain warranty, the dealer will replace the TCCM for the $100 deductible.

Otherwise, it can cost in the region of $400.

How to change 4wd hub actuator

These units should always be replaced in pairs. They have done the same amount of time on the axle, therefore it only makes sense to change them both.There should be 6 allen head or torx head screws retaining the cap. Once the cap is removed there will be a large c clip inside, this may require special pliers to remove. Once this is done there are a series of collars and bushings that "must be kept in order as to simplify reinstallation. Don,t forget to grease everthing well upon reinstallation. Thanks, Dana

Dont know how to use my 4wd

You first have the car running and as long as you are going or driving under the speed of 55 mph you can put it in 4 wheel drive high. for low come to a stop put in neatural and switch to low. put in drive and go. max speed 10 mph

My 1991 hilux surf seems to be stuck in 4WD..

i had this and i had to stop disengage then keep starting to move off then stopping and just trying it over a few times back in and out of four wheel drive worked for me hope it does for you
